I have Way's heat shield on my car and have been very satisfied with it. If you do a search, I did a DIY with pics back when I put it on. Everything fits under the stock heat shield.

I watched the video on M7 and found it very helpful. He made an interesting point about wrapping the turbo so much, that eventually you could fry the bearings. May have to go that route now that my scoop has been replaced. Thank you for the link. BTW...the original bolts that were on the OEM heat shield, did you discard those and go with the two bolts that came with the new heat shield?

Thanks, Ed

Forgive my ignorance on this subject, but what advantage do these other heat shields give to the engine?

Do a search from the 2nd gen coupe talk forum page, type in heat shield, there is lots of discussion on the different kinds, and reasons for installing them.

+1 for the M7 heat shield. The problem with the stock shield is that the heat is being vented right under the hood scoop causing it to warp. The M7 shield is simple to install and vents the heat towards the sides of the car and away from the hood scoop.

I also have a M7 and can say I like it. More for my hands not getting burned from a hot turbo when I am in the engine bay.

I have read a lot about the turbo wrap and how it can fry the turbo but so far, there has been no reported incidents of that on NAM that I know of. If you want to buy a less expensive turbo wrap, look at this:

I would like to read about how a wrap can fry a turbo, could you provide some links. I do know our dealer thinks MINI should have thought of it being OEM.

Think of steam pipes...you put a wrap and lagging...to keep the heat in...stays cool outside.

In NJ they haven't seen many problems with the warping of the hood scoop but I would assume it would be worse in a hotter climate and very hard driving. Dealer indicated that Mini is replacing warped ones under warranty so no worry - service rep thinks it might just be a run a inferior plastic compared to others.

Replacement fiber scoops are better.

I'm planning on getting the NM engineering.

I've heard about the fitment issues on the M7 version (which apparently have been fixed, but still), plus the price point is too much for me.

The turbo wrap is something i'm on the fence about as well, because i've heard all sorts of things about oil temp and bearings, etc. Better safe than sorry.
