R55 Anyone get their Clubman tinted? How Much? What type?
Anyone get their Clubman tinted? How Much? What type?
Hi everyone,
I am brand new to the whole "tinted" window thing....had tinted windows on an 89 toyota and after a few years it bubbled and peeled quite a bit. I am sure things have changed in 20 years or so...
Anyhow I was wondering who has tinted their clubman and what it ran you?
What type of tint was used as I am not really sure on just what is the best stuff out there.
Thanks in advance
.
Mike

Go to a place that has a good price and a lifetime guarantee that means they use good stuff that wont peel or bubble .I use a local guy and he quoted me 120 for all the windows ,sunroofs and a drop in the front as dark as i want to go with lifetime guarantee .
Most places nowadays will have a lifetime warranty on their work which covers bubbling as well as the film fading. Metallic and ceramic films exist. Typically, ceramic will reject more heat is considered "safe" for use with navigation systems, keyless entry, etc. On the other hand, metallic will be cheaper and more resistant to fading. I talked to a few shops and none has seen issues with navigation or other electronics on newer cars using metallic film. Some brands to look at: FormulaOne, Huper Optik, Solar Gard, Madico. Each of those will have films of varying light transmission, heat rejection, and color.
I have Pinnacle, which is FormulaOne's top (highest heat rejection) ceramic film. I paid $400. When I was shopping around, Huper Optik (also a ceramic) is about the same price for the same performance.

The local BMW dealership uses a certain establishment. I gave them a call today and they will tint all the windows and the sunroof for $250 and they use 3M window tint. They have a a lifetime guarantee for everything except for abuse as in I scratch it up with something.
Not a bad deal as far as the wife and I are concerned. I think we will most definitely be getting it done! IF they do a good job I will bring my VW Jetta in there as well.

Yea mine was about $235 I think, the place that gets tinting from the MINI dealer contracted out. I got 3M, and it was 50% and looks pretty good. I would have liked a darker tint but its' state law and I don't need the hassle.
They will do 35% on the fronts and 20% for the rest according to our county/state laws. Not sure if I will go that route...will try to see some examples of other cars around to see how they turn out.
Not sure if I want the entire car the same % or do like I mentioned above.

WOW FOLKS!
Those pictures are AMAZING!!!!! The place that the local BMW dealer uses seems to do nice work. They use a 3M product. Has anyone had any experience with this? How did you choose your place to tint your cars?
Oh BTW....any more pics are greatly appreciated. The tinting REALLY makes a big difference in the look of everything. Considering having my 2005.5 Jetta TDI done as well!

Everything (save the windshield) is tinted with LHNR17 film Charcoal Series by Solar Guard. You'll have to check my gallery link for the pics, my upload attempts keep erroring out
Obviously check local laws for window tinting.
In Michigan it is illegal to tint the driver's and passenger's front windows without medical neccessity. (I have an Rx)
When trying to choose who to tint for you, check thier references, insist on seeing actual clients that have had the tint for different periods of time (ie. 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, more).
Spend the extra $ and get the sunroof(s) tinted as well! The sun is bright.

And where was that? I went to Mother's Window Tint yesterday and they wanted $399 plus taxes and franchise fee, then the 3M stuff was $299 plus.
Got disgusted and left. Spill it please.

I went to a high-end classic car dealer (jag, porsche, lambo, etc.) near my office and asked for a reference. They said they had a guy who came in to do all their cars, so I had them do it. Excellent job! I'd ask ask around for professional references.
Mike, do you have a sunroof on your car? Get it tinted at least in that area. I live in Texas and picked my car up on a very hot day. The sunroof tinting makes a difference when you come back to the car after it's 99 deg. outside.
