Rear seat adjustable latches???

Didn't really know how else to describe my question but here goes. After my wife has been annoyed with the squeeking noise coming from the rear of her new Clubman, I researched it on here and found the likely case to be the passenger rear seat latch. I went to spray it with WD-40 and while I had the seat halfway folded down, I noticed that you can rotate the latch up for it so that when you relatch the seat in place, the back of it is straight up and down verticle, instead of its normal, more laid-back position. I couldn't figure out what the reasoning of this was unless it is to hold more in the cargo area while still having passengers ride in the back. I looked through the manual to see what I could find but saw nothing. So, does anyone know what this is for?

rear seat backs in perpendicular position to boot floor are to allow boxes and such to be stored in the boot when you need just a skooch more room than the typical reclined seat position will allow. it's in one of the manuals, but i forget which one, and i don't have the manuals in front of me.

That's exactly what it is for. Doesn't make a big difference for the Clubman but it does for the regular Hardtop.

I was just reading through the 2009 Clubman Owner's manual online (looking for amperage rating on the 12V outlets). FYI - The rear seat angle adjustment is described on pages 86-87: "Expand the cargo bay by raising the split rear seat backrests to a steeper angle"

I just discovered this today, on the one year anniversary of my Clubman purchase. Very neat feature.

Are you telling me you guys did not read the manual, it in there.

Also my dealer was fantastic, he spent over an hour going over "everything" about the car, which included how to make this adjustment.

And Tim you did not find these when you took the back of your car apart to replace some trim pieces.

I always read my instruction manuals from cover to cover, but somehow managed to miss this one

And my MA also forgot to show us that feature but in all fairness we picked up the car late at night and she did spend quality time with us

I knew about this feature in the R56 hardtop but somehow it all went into a forgotten place. This is a very useful thing for us as the Clubman is the family truckster.

I did, but I didn't think they had an actual function. I thought they flipped up just to make the trim piece come out easier. This morning for some reason, one of them happened to be sticking up when I put the seat up. When the seat didn't go back all the way, I realized there was a purpose.

I've been meaning to read that manual... I've been busy though (for the past year)
