I'm in Canada. I'm in the process of negotiating.

Ive got two dealers working on it (neither knows I'm in contact with the other...yet). So far, with the options I want, the best is about CDN$740 below MSRP. Mostly due to reduction in, or waiving of price of options, but I'll go for reduction on base at the end.

I didn't go near them for a couple of weeks after seeing them for the third time each (got a an MSRP "quote" from them the last time), at which point they both contacted me to see what had a happened to me...I knew I had them at that point (they blinked!).

I don't know if they're sales have been affected, but with all the doom and gloom news about auto sales they must be scared.

Now, let the pre-sale fun begin!

Welcome to the reason you still can't get a deal on a MINI

I have to wonder though if that bubble is getting ready to burst. Back when gas was 4 almost 5 a gallon for premium my dealer's website showed no inventory. I just checked, they show 50 cars on their website about 10 clubmans. The website list probably includes cars spoken for in orders, but that is more than I've seen on their website in a long time. They seem to definitely have some inventory that is not spoken for.

When I purchased mine, there were a ton on the lot, but most of them were older models and bare bones models. The bulk of the orders were "custom" ordes.

Still, it is amazing that other makers haven't seemed to figure out what makes MINIs so great. Do they really think it's because it is cute??? Numbers like these should surely make them wonder what the attraction might be.

Under MSRP is possible. I ordered in late June for under MSRP from dealer internet manager when gas was nearing $5 per gallon. Plus got free mats and wheel locks at delivery. No junk fees. No trade in, so no $ games played there.

But I had to drive 100 miles to get car. My local dealer refused to budge from their 4K markup over MSRP -- they said "why should we sell to you when someone else will pay the markup". They were right -- someone else did buy that slot back then. But I will never buy a car from them ever -- so they lost future MINI / BMW sales. And now that they have 80 cars in stock I hear they have backed off on their markup.

Bottom line, except maybe for the Clubman, you can find under MSRP. And I suspect it will get easier. While MINI was up 40% Nov 2008 vs Nov 2007, sales were down 13% Oct 2008 to Nov 2008.

FYI, I'm thrilled with my MINI which just crossed 3000 miles today on the drive home from work.

Yea, I ordered a clubman so the fact I was able to get MSRP was a blessing, so I'm happy as a lark (I really dont know where that phrase comes from, but I think it's legit)

when I started looking, I couldn't find any "bare bones Clubman S" for the life of me, so I ordered mine. All dealers had were loaded up models, all with sunroofs. I ended up getting mine from Bob Smith@MSRP. Got lucky with dates as well. Five weeks from order to pick up.. and I love it ..

I ordered around 11/21/08 I think. Supposedly it was going to fill the January Build spot with a delivery date in March some time. But turns out it's already scheduled for production and might hit the line this coming week, and it might hit the dealer a month earlier or sooner. Hopefully not though hehe, I need the time.

Mine is a Clubman JCW
Lightning Blue / Black
Premium Package
Xeon Lights
Punch Carbon Leather
Nav
HiFi Sound
Comfort Bluetooth w/ IPOD adapater
and then I added the Carbon Fiber scoop as the only accessory.

I'm not sure about the fees yet, I figured I'm already ordering out of my price range, so I'll just suck it up hehe. I just have to find a way to sell off my current cars in time so I can pay for the new toy.

Congratulations belacyrf. I also got an order in for MSRP last Sunday 30 Nov. MA said I had a January build date, but Owner's Lounge says my Clubman is already in production (with a VIN and all). I called ASK MINI and my estimated production completion date is 6 January - the factory goes idle for 4 weeks after this weekend.

I'm OK with the wait like you in order to have more for the down payment, but some support will help in the meantime. I can't figure out if my build is considered Week 49 '08 or Week 2 '09

BTW - I ordered a Cooper Clubman in SS/SS/B; Sport, Convenience, Premium and Cold Weather packages; Xenon Lights, Rear Fog; HC Lounge Leather with Cream White color line and Brushed Alloy

I'm up in the Great White North, and I haven't signed the order, but the last quote I got for a special order 2009 Club S was for about $2000 below MSRP when factoring cash reduction and extras thrown in at no charge. This is about $500 below a 2008 S that's on their lot that they would really like to unload!

Just don't be afraind to to ask the "impossible" and don't act like you give a damn if you buy the car now, or later, or at all...it's all part of the fun!

If you don't ask, you don't get.

dvhone Good job,I was thinking that they may be feeling the pinch.I ordered my clubman 4 months ago and it has been at the dealer for approx.a month waiting for back ordered items that were not installed on my build.I may be able to lower the price a little because of the dealer mistake and the wait I've been thru, who knows when it will be completed as ordered.Like you said half the fun and about ready to tell them to keep it anyway and reorder in a year or so.

Yea that's normally the tact I would take. Unfortunately, here in Southern Cal, the clubman is basically the hot thing here since it's big enough to carry a surfboard, snowboard, and all that stuff. And the peeps here have the money to buy them. So I was thankful for MSRP even though everytime I look at the build price it hurts back my backside.

Same with my dealer. I traded in my R53 in July when premium was 445/gal and the dealer had 0 used inventory (got top $$.) Now there must be 40-50 MINIs, many CPO-Next program, on the lot.

Where did they all come from??

When I ordered mid October, and got a build date within three days, I thought I did good to get MSRP. I know the times have changed and close to end of year and all. If you can buy off the lot more power to you. I didn't want a lot of options, but wanted Roof Rails..Even some of the used Clubmans around are good deals now..I say go for it, you wont regret it.

My dealer had a bunch of stock, but most of them were low option models, and it seems most mini buyers are looking for "their" mini. So off the lot usually isn't the first option.

Also my MA said that many of them were older models (I think some as old as 2006), which I thought was odd....
