Inspecting a New Arrival

So I'll finally pick my litte guy up on Friday. Poor thing has been sitting at the dealer since before Thanksgiving.

I was looking for advice on what to inspect for. Obviously I'll be checking that everying on my build plan is there. But what other things should I look for?

My build included the folowing: black bonnet strips, crome line exterior, premium and cold weather package, rear spoiler, arm rest, crome line interior, anthracite headliner (seen the mis build posts) piano black finish. Oh, and he's BRG/BLK

Thanks

Take someone along who is not emotionally involved in your new MINI, someone like Monk, who will notice everything. My daughter noticed a scratch in the plastic trim. I was too crazed to notice anything. The MA had the trim replaced within minutes.

The thread listed above is good and if you dig you can find several others. I printed out a checklist from information found on NAM and took it with when I picked up mine.

Thanks guys!

Guess I'm guilty of not searching all of NAM. I did search the clubman forum. Didn't think of the shorter mini side of things. Guess I'm biassed already :-)

Any clubman specific things to check? Barn door operations, folding seats etc.

Schedule pick up when you have plenty of time. Inspect and test drive Before the financial and optional warranty drill. Leave time for the dealer to fix 'stuff' Before the financial drill.

While this doesn’t pertain to you specifically, it pertains to anyone who gets racing stripes on the boot. Make sure the stripes go all the way to the window. My stripes only reached up to just below the door handle and the MA tried to tell me that’s how they are…I was confused cause it just didn’t look right. So I went over to another Clubman that had stripes on the boot and sure enough, they went all the way up to the window. The MA was a little embarrassed and had the guys stripe it all the way to the window.

The advice about taking along someone who is not emotionally involved is a great one. Also the test drive.

The most important parts from my point of view are the body and interior condition. Paint, scratches, trim, etc. Those are parts that are hard to claim on warranty after the fact due to 'wear and tear'.

What was your MA smoking?! When I picked up my car, the MA told me that it was normal for the stripes to stop at the handles and CONTINUE above them through the windshield wipers. Did your MA ask you to let the stripes go through the sunroof (if you have one)? Oddly, I've seen some other Clubmen on this site where the stripes went on the sunroof! Looks weird to me. My MA said I could get the stripes on the sunroof or have them stop at the sunroof and continue between the front of the sunroof and behind the windshield. I chose the latter and am glad I did. My Clubman looks nice and sleek that way. BTW, those who don't know whether to add stripes (any color!), I say go for it. They make the car look muuuuch faster! Hey, you've already splurged $25K on a car, why not make sure it looks awesome too?

Excellent suggestions! This Spring I will be placing the order for the long-awaited Clubman - the Mini that will be my 'dream' Mini.

But, the last two Mini's we've purchased, we drove it out of Mini's showroom floor (and drove away). Would going for a test drive be problematic? How many owners have test driven their Mini's first?

Same here. No test drive except the 80+ mile drive home.
