R55 "Cooper" on boot?
"Cooper" on boot?
I've had my clubman 1 month now and I just notice - why on earth does it have a Cooper S badge on the boot?
I came out from a store to find a couple inspecting my car. I heard the woman say "I love these cars, but I thought they were smaller". So, being a brat, I said "they are, this is a Clubman, not a Cooper". She pointed out the Cooper badge on the boot. Nowhere does it say Clubman on it.
What's up with that?

There is a website selling factory letters that you can glue on. I have no idea what the name is but just letting you know such a thing does exist. I plan to buy some as soon as I can remember the name of the site! They said you just use dental floss to cut the original letters off and glue the new ones on.

I guess I don't understand. I like that I have a Mini Cooper. If not for the 'Cooper' part it would be a doggy little box, like the original Mini before John Cooper got hold of it. The fact that it's the station wagon version is obvious when you look at it. Kinda like putting 'CONVERTIBLE' on the back of drop top Coopers.

It may be that nothing more is needed than to come up with an appropriate narrative for the inquisitive masses. Cooper and Cooper S refer to the level of performance tune. Coupe, Cabrio, and Clubman refers to the body configuration. Just wait 'til the SAV comes out....we are going to have even more 'splainin' to do!!!!
In the end, there probably is a small-ish list of questions that well-meaning folks tend to ask about............"what is your mpg?"............"do you feel safe in that thing?".............."how much stuff can you fit in there?"............"how much do these cost?"..............."oh, it's so cute." Coming up with a reasonable answer to these inquiries is something most owners have to do, each in their own way.

There's no such thing as a MINI Clubman S.
Audi A4 sedan has an A4 badge
Audi A4 Avant (the wagon) has an A4 badge, not an Avant badge.
BMW 5-series sedan has the appropriate 5-series badge
BMW 5-series sport wagon has a 5 series badge, not a 'wagon' badge.
The "clubman" part just denotes the body type. It's still a MINI Cooper....it's just a MINI Cooper wagon.

It wasn't until Cooper got hold of one and modded the heck out of it for racing that it because 'famous' and had some performance. He was actually racing what a lot of people were already doing on the streets. The Mini was a 'tuner' car. Cheap with readily available accessories to make it go faster.
So, the operative word for you car is Cooper. There are Cooper hardtops, Cooper convertibles and Cooper clubmans (station wagons).
Put whatever label you want on it and have fun driving it.
My mother had a 1987 Chevy Cavalier station wagon, and I don't recall that it had an emblem on it.
Now that's what I'm talking about (aboot, as my Canadian friends would say) - and my American friends get way too much of a kick out of saying my car has a boot, so a boot it shall remain.
sure, before i took off the "cooper" letters i put a strip of masking (clear) tape along the bottom of the letters. then i took off the "cooper" with dental floss, cleaned the surface with some degreaser and then lined up the bottom of my new letters (starting with the N and working backwords) with the top of the tape. The rest is a mix of patience and OCD.
if you've already taken your letters off, you can still use the masking tape as a straight edge. just step back and look at it. if you don't press firmly the letters will come back off enough to reposition. when you're sure of the placement press the letters in fully.
sorry there's no real secrets, just patience. good luck on getting yours on though!

There are also magnetic strips that go on the can to hold the bottom of the letters at the same level and then a small dowel to use for spacing.
