"Cooper" on boot?

I've had my clubman 1 month now and I just notice - why on earth does it have a Cooper S badge on the boot?

I came out from a store to find a couple inspecting my car. I heard the woman say "I love these cars, but I thought they were smaller". So, being a brat, I said "they are, this is a Clubman, not a Cooper". She pointed out the Cooper badge on the boot. Nowhere does it say Clubman on it.
What's up with that?

Probably because they are the Clubman version of a Mini Cooper, not a Mini Clubman.

The official name is MINI Cooper Clubman. The only place that says Clubman is the door sill where the club door is.

There is a website selling factory letters that you can glue on. I have no idea what the name is but just letting you know such a thing does exist. I plan to buy some as soon as I can remember the name of the site! They said you just use dental floss to cut the original letters off and glue the new ones on.

You could always get a vanity plate, and then they'd ask "what's club-man" stand for?
By the way, the Clubman doesn't have a boot. It's a station wagon.

I guess I don't understand. I like that I have a Mini Cooper. If not for the 'Cooper' part it would be a doggy little box, like the original Mini before John Cooper got hold of it. The fact that it's the station wagon version is obvious when you look at it. Kinda like putting 'CONVERTIBLE' on the back of drop top Coopers.

Your MA didn't tell you what kind of car you were buying before you bought it? Shame on him/her.

you like cooper, i like clubman. opinions are opinions, but how do you make the leap to no cooper emblem = "doggy little box"?

It may be that nothing more is needed than to come up with an appropriate narrative for the inquisitive masses. Cooper and Cooper S refer to the level of performance tune. Coupe, Cabrio, and Clubman refers to the body configuration. Just wait 'til the SAV comes out....we are going to have even more 'splainin' to do!!!!

In the end, there probably is a small-ish list of questions that well-meaning folks tend to ask about............"what is your mpg?"............"do you feel safe in that thing?".............."how much stuff can you fit in there?"............"how much do these cost?"..............."oh, it's so cute." Coming up with a reasonable answer to these inquiries is something most owners have to do, each in their own way.

Cooper S Clubman owners and Cooper Clubman owners should try to remember what the actual name of their cars are and not invent new names for things that already have a specific nomenclature.

There's no such thing as a MINI Clubman S.

Audi A4 sedan has an A4 badge

Audi A4 Avant (the wagon) has an A4 badge, not an Avant badge.

BMW 5-series sedan has the appropriate 5-series badge

BMW 5-series sport wagon has a 5 series badge, not a 'wagon' badge.

The "clubman" part just denotes the body type. It's still a MINI Cooper....it's just a MINI Cooper wagon.

Maybe they could just make the logo a litle bigger on the Clubman.

The original Mini (not the Mini Cooper) was a little box of a car with about 50hp and 12" dia wheels and looked like a little box. Hence a "doggy little box'. Doggy=not very fast. Also, there was a Mini Clubman with the same little motor and wheels.

It wasn't until Cooper got hold of one and modded the heck out of it for racing that it because 'famous' and had some performance. He was actually racing what a lot of people were already doing on the streets. The Mini was a 'tuner' car. Cheap with readily available accessories to make it go faster.

So, the operative word for you car is Cooper. There are Cooper hardtops, Cooper convertibles and Cooper clubmans (station wagons).

Put whatever label you want on it and have fun driving it.

My mother had a 1987 Chevy Cavalier station wagon, and I don't recall that it had an emblem on it.

Now that's what I'm talking about (aboot, as my Canadian friends would say) - and my American friends get way too much of a kick out of saying my car has a boot, so a boot it shall remain.

Hardingsan, how did you get the letters lined up so straight? My hands are always unsteady so it'd look like I drank a dozen beers before attempting to stick on the letters! Can you give us some tips?

sure, before i took off the "cooper" letters i put a strip of masking (clear) tape along the bottom of the letters. then i took off the "cooper" with dental floss, cleaned the surface with some degreaser and then lined up the bottom of my new letters (starting with the N and working backwords) with the top of the tape. The rest is a mix of patience and OCD.

if you've already taken your letters off, you can still use the masking tape as a straight edge. just step back and look at it. if you don't press firmly the letters will come back off enough to reposition. when you're sure of the placement press the letters in fully.

sorry there's no real secrets, just patience. good luck on getting yours on though!

That is basically how repair shops would do it but some also use a wood dowel to make the spacing even.

There are also magnetic strips that go on the can to hold the bottom of the letters at the same level and then a small dowel to use for spacing.
