R55 Killer doors?
Killer doors?
Okay. It seems like this: Unless the Clubman is parked nose downhill, and on a pretty good slope, that the front doors try to swing back and kill me. Or at least bash my leg(s). For a small car, the front doors are really long, and apparently pretty heavy, and appear to be determined to attack me, perhaps in revenge for bringing it to North Carolina...
Except for the NC part, anyone else getting attacked by their doors?

I would agree. My Dubman is my new, geener, cheaper family car.....yet the ddors make getting my daughter in and out of the rear difficult. The actually aperture sizes are very good, and allow great access.....but the bungee doors undo some of these positives.

This problem has been mentioned regarding all of the models. It appears that the detentes are too shallow to permit the doors to stay in position. My MAGILLA's doors swing back, even when on level surfaces.
There was mention in another thread of someone investigating the possibility of deepening the detentes, but I haven't followed the thread. A search might show some info on the issue.....

Yep, what Blimey said.
hoonu, mine also does the same thing. I find that if I am a little more careful opening the door, and do it a bit more slowly it helps a little.
eh, small price to pay for a kick@$$ ride.

This is the second Mini I have owned (first was a 05 Cooper). 08 Clubbie and still the same issue with the doors. I just now always have the door propped open with my foot whenever needed. But 1 negative does not outweigh all the positives of Buckley. Damn I love my car.
this is the way the MINI doors work since day 1 of the 2002 release.
you will learn how to handle them over time
... for example opening them "slower" does the trick most of the time. they don't like to be pushed open fast.
plus the door IS really long and not to mention heavy ... try comparing its heft to any Japanses car for example.

Whew, I thought it was a poltergeist closing the door. I noticed this the other day in the flat parking lot at work. I had the passenger door open while doing a couple of quick exterior touch-ups before heading into the office (yes, the sickness has begun), and while I was back by the boot I saw the door close all on its own. It was as if it were on a timer. Spooky!
At least I now know to stay out of the way.

Jsut to let you know it is not jsut a mini thing. My 2003 BMW 525iT wagon does the same thing. A 2007 3 series i drove as a loaner last year did the same thing. and a friends 2000 7 series does this as well.
I have had a few knee knockers, but I think the little Red Wagon is jelouse of my wife. It gets her almost every time. I did have to explain to her to "Not" stick the foot out to keep the door from closing on you!
It will just **** off the Little red wagon
and leave a scuff mark!
I try to explain to her how important it is to use the Hands!
I am hoping Mini will create a fix before the shoe causes a scuff mark.

We noticed it a little, but not to the extent that some have here. For us it just means opening the door slowly and carefully to prevent the "rebound" which on ours is what happens. In all honesty, I am glad that the killer door has made us do that because I am certain it will prevent some self-inflicted door ding down the road. It is definitely something to warn new passengers about though!

Just got my 3rd MINI, a Clubman S, & both of my other MINIs (a 03 Coupe & a 05 Cabrio) had the same issue. They ALL do it. Just like lurch said, you will get used to it over time & opening the door slowly does seem to help. Easy trade off for all the fun factors & knowing that door will protect you if needed.
