Painted C-Panels?

Hi -I came across this 'product' on minspeed.net. The painted C-Panels are purchased on an exchange basis.

I am curious what everyone thinks of this 'mod'. Would you do this to your Clubman?

I love that mod, I think it looks better than any of the factory options. I have already considered it for our car. I'd say it is "on the list".

I'd consider it -- depending, like anything else, on cost. I like the look, though. I would include finding a way to extend the chrome "belt line".

The only downside is the lack of that chrome beltline NJ mentioned - there are a couple pix on http://www.mini2.com/forum/ and it just looks wrong without the chrome. Of course it might look better if you black out the beltline like I did and I guess it would depend on the colors used.

I would keep my black c-panels and change out the rest. Might follow thulewx and blackout the belt line, too.

Hmmm...

Twister, I have been thinking of this for a while, Pete, at Minspeed is a friend of mine and I am at his place all the time. I have seen the painted pieces he sends out and the paint job is outstanding. I have been wanting to see a chili red car with this mod just to see how it looks. Please lets us know if you do it.

Thanks,
Larry

When you say black out the belt line, what does this mean? Just need the translation

Also, I was looking into something like this as well, but believed you needed to have a body shop remove the rear bumper to get that one section on top of it off. Is this still the case?

It's a cosmetic mod - You can get semi-gloss back automotive striping tape in the appropriate width to cover up the chrome portion of the beltline.

On another thought....is it possible to apply a piece to the "B" pillar that would look like brushed aluminum or similiar? I had one on my Touareg B pillars, and it was nice looking.

If you go to each picture in the gallery, there is a "direct link" address. Use that. Also, it should be /img in the brackets at the end.

I personally would not do it... I think the pillars are what gives our clubbies the distinction between other MINI's...but to each their own...Thats why every MINI is unique... good luck!

Thanks Proximal!! l am here sweating and l go back here to try again and there it is So l added the chrome under the pillar and kept the plllar black, just like on the MC. when l was ordering mine l was playing with the Sparkling Silver but after "painting it" in Photoshop we went with the Nightfire Red. l didn't spend as much time with the Sparkling Silver as we were on our way to PHX. l like the red much better.

I agree...the body colored c-pillars make the Clubman seem even longer whereas the OEM contrasting color "ends" the car nicely. The designers got it right, imo.

I don't mind the longer look personally. To me, the black roof with black pillars unbalanced the car, which is why I went with a body color roof, to get a layered look. Inverse Oreo in the case of PW and tinted windows. I like that fine and agree that the pillars are distinctive. Makes for a busy rear end, though. With body color pillars, the black roof and black skirt and wheels stratifies the appearance and emphasizes - to me - the low and the long. Which is not a bad thing, given the 'stretch' nature of the Clubman. Whose proportions I find much more pleasing than the standard MINI! But that's just me
