Squeak from Rear Passenger Area

So after a few days with my Clubman S, the squeak I heard from the beginning has gotten worse. It seems to be coming from the passenger side rear seat area, but I don't think it's actually inside the car. It sounds like it could be inside the paneling of the rear area. Not sure. It's kind of a high pitched squeak or chirp, almost like a little bird is squeaking back there. I only hear it when im on a rough road or I go over bumps. It's also sometimes accompanied by a rattle from that same area, but I'm unsure if they are related.

Any ideas?

You have described exactly the location and the squeak I heard in the demo Clubman at Ralph Schomp Mini, Denver. I believe it is metal on metal.

I will be interested to see what comes of this--if others are experiencing the same "chirp," and what the fix will entail.

I'm approximately five months from ordering. . .

I called the Niello Mini service department and left a message, hoping to make an appointment for this week. It shouldn't be making this noise, and they should fix it.

Hmm

Check that the rear seat back is fully locked. Also make sure the part the seat latches against is in the right position and not partially in the second position.

I have the same squeak ,it comes and goes. When the right seat is down
it goes away, seems to be the latch. I'm sure it's no big deal.

I have some sort of squeaking/creaking in the rear of the car also, along with other panel vibrations etc. The problem is that these noises come and go with temperature differences. This morning there were no noises at all.

Well I've made an appointment with the Niello MINI service department to have it checked out next week. There is still a rattle that sounds almost like one of the amps in the side panel of the trunk is loose or something. The squeak is constant, unless i'm sitting in the back seat. I'm going to take some WD-40 to the seat latch and see if that helps.

ahendy, I had the exact same squeaking noise...like a bird...coming from the back seat area. It started almost as soon as I drove off the lot for the first time, but it was very quiet at first. The squeak became louder when the weather was cold or if I ran the A/C. I finally folded both back seats down and the squeaking stopped. Then I folded the left seat back up after driving for awhile--still no squeak. Then I folded the right side up and the squeak eventually returned. So, I rubbed some WD-40 on the right rear seat latch (the metal u-shaped part), and I haven't heard anything since. Hope this helps.

Yup! That's exactly what I did just a few hours ago, except I actually squirted a very small amount inside the seat latch. I took 'er for a spin and haven't heard any squeaks. Odd that it comes like that from the factory, it was bone dry. Seems like the kinda thing you'd want to keep lubed...?

I had the rear seat squeak a couple of weeks ago, but it was just that the seat backs were only partially latched after I had folded them down and then back up. Carefully check the metal seat latch mechanism to see if it has any play in the fully latched upright position. If it does, that may be the source of the squeak.

Squeak-b-gone

I did the same as ahendy & the squeak so far has disappeared. I think it was coming from the rear passenger side latch.

They gave me this Clubman while my Cooper is in for service and this noise was making me loose my mind. I'll probably have it for a few days, so I went ahead and wrapped the metal bar with felt tape and closed the seat. No more squeak!

BTW - this is an awesome car!

I had the same rear seat noise problem and fix, however, I'd suggest using a heavy grease lubricant instead of wd-40. The WD-40 is a rather light-weight lubricant and will dry out relatively quickly.

NAM comes through again! I've had my car for 2 weeks, went on a trip (no problems). Went on an errand (put the seats down) and they've squeaked ever since. Ran to to store (liquid wrench) - squeak no more. Ahh smooth motoring again...

Amazing that we all have the exact same squeak source! I just posted this on the Week 32 thread myself! Problem solved - WD-40 sprayed into the latch worked for me.

Man, what a relief. That squeak was driving me batty.

I was week 32 as well. You'd think the Dealer would conduct this prior to us receiving the R55/6 - sounds like MINI needs to put out a Service Bulletin. Enjoy your ride...

I too within the last few days, noticed a squeak coming from the rear seats. I thought it had to do with my recent speaker install and/or alarm, was gonna complain to installer. Will try this simple fix ...... thanks

This has been covered many times over and I am surprised the redundant post filter didn't flag it. I made the same mistake. Put some grease on the seat fold down latch and it should go away.

We had that too...a bit of lube fixed it also. We also had a buzzy kind of rattle since new up around the right side windshield. That one was driving me nuts. During our 10 day trip out west I finally started smacking every bit of trim I could get my hands on. It was the instrument/control cluster on the headliner above the rear view mirror. I gave it a whack and heard a "click"...rattle went away immediately.

Gentleman, good morning, I took delivery of my baby this Saturday and the squeek started since monday morning. I am now relieved of the concern since this great site has given me the light on hoe to proceed.

Have a great day!!!

Squeak Squelched

That did it. A bit of lube (I used a tiny dab of ball bearing grease) on the rear seat latch bar (I didn't spray anything into the latch mechanism), flopped the seats back up and it's been fine.

Now to find the source of the buzzing on the driver's side, toward the rear. . . .

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I'm going to try the lube on that part tonight. Now I will enjoy listening to the sound of the motor instead of having to turn the radio up.
