R55 one final question: brg or chili red?
one final question: brg or chili red?
OK. It's time to stop messing around with the unimportant questions about manual vs. automatic, how practical the car is for a single girl with a big dog, etc.
It's time to get down to the truly crucial concerns, the matters of life or death, the preoccupations that keep you awake at night.
I speak of color.
My first instinct was as follows: Chili red with black trim and roof, black bonnet stripes, and the standard black-and-gray faux leather + cloth upholstery, and chrome trim inside the car.
My second instinct is very hard to resist, and goes as follows: British racing green with black trim and roof, black bonnet stripes, and the Tuscan beige leather interior with matching wheel, stick and hand brake, and I'm not sure whether I'd keep or get rid of the chrome interior details--not sure the chrome stylings work as well with the lovely Tuscan leather.
Part of me really, REALLY wants that gorgeous, pleasing-to-the-senses combo the cool/deep/scrumptious green and the buttery leather goodness. But another part of me senses that, when you're driving a wee little car, you want to be as visible as possible, and the red will definitely be easier to see in all lighting. Also, if I get the BRG, I really really want the fancy leather interior, which is super expensive. With the red car, the standard interior is the best looking interior.
Now I also think that red and black, as a combo, reminds me of the *****. I'm sorry, it just does, and then combine that with the MINI wing logo and I start having these unpleasant associations. I know, I know. I am the biggest dork in history. Still, will I always introduce my red-and-black car with an apology for the political and historical associations of the color combination?
And before you suggest switching to white trim, etc. ... no. I love all you peeps who drive the pepper whites, etc., but to me the white roof and trim or white-and-black combo reminds me of those shoes that girls used to wear in the 1950's with the poodle skirts and the swing dancing. Just not my style.
I know that some readers of this post are considering whether or not it is possible to have a member of an online community committed to a mental institution, but really, I am not insane. I am just a nerd.

sounds like you're going the BRG route
this made me LOL ... first time I heard or read this on any MINI forum ... and I've been around for almost 5 years
Now I also think that red and black, as a combo, reminds me of the *****.
I say BRG and Tuscan leather with Eng Oak. Have you seen this interior? Here's what it looks like, if you haven't. This is Tilda's baby:

I'm getting this on my Miz Godiva, too. When I saw it in person I was stunned at it's classic richness!

I was split between the same exact combos (on the exterior, anyhow).
In the showroom, with perfect lighting, Chili Red and BRG looked fantastic. I was leaning towards the Chili Red.
What finally broke me was seeing the red on a cloudy day. It looked fairly dull. BRG gets dark gray when the sun isn't shining bright in my opinion, but the red looked far more blah. Seems like red either looks hot and exciting, or almost weather beaten depending on the lighting.
I know many will disagree with me. Maybe it was an older red (and not Chili) that I saw this way. This is all subjective (the hard choices always are in this forum
), so I recommend looking at both colors outside when the sun isn't beating down to get a fair look.
The weather has been miserable in Chicagoland this year, and I've seen more clouds than sun. BRG seems to handle the extremes better. Perhaps because it's metallic?
Then I jumped off the deep end: I chose a matching top and no stripes on my 'S'. Just trying to be different, but probably a bit overboard. I figure the chrome scoop will make the BRG "pop" that much more (i maxed out on chrome; seems like it helps the darker colors quite a bit).

Like most I'm biased as well. But what could be more 'Mini' than a color with 'British' in the name?
Trending Topics
Lady Godiva: PRETTY.
Everyone: Go look at dlpruk's purty pitchers. They screwed up and put the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car, but otherwise it's HAWT.
I think there are a lot of BRG fans in this forum. Will no one stick up for the Nazimobile?
One of my specialization areas for my Ph.D. will probably be Irish literature.
Could this be a sign?
I Love my CHILI RED and BLACK Clubby. Otto sings to me. I was considering BRG too. I solved the problem by planning on getting a BRG Cabrio when the new model comes out. Best of both worlds and the garage will look like Christmas!
Don't be put off because it's called Chili Red. Remember that St. George's flag has the colors Red and White in it. AND, keep in mind that in Oxford and Swindon they would point out that technically, England is where the MINI is made, and not Britain. So why not consider Red & White. With Red you can be seen, and Red and White has no **** connotations.
Cloud10 and revray, you make excellent arguments in favor of chili red.
And I love how revray obviously realized that he couldn't convince me that red and black aren't a **** color scheme, and instead played along with my insanity and came up with a reasonable compromise.
Hmm.
I have a lot to think about.

I do enjoy Chili red, in fact I almost purchased a Chili red MCs they had on the lot. But I ended up going with BRG, and I'm very glad I did. I think BRG is one of the most fantastic colors I've ever seen on any car. It's a classic, and very beautiful.

(Tilda's is the one where they messed up fitting the steering wheel IMHO!
)We differ a bit though as mine's manual and I went for the wood wheel - which I love and much prefer to any leather I've driven. (It's not a cheap option and may not be to everyone's taste but ... )
Oh, wait.
What was that car named that the Dukes of Hazard drove? The General Lee?
Hmm. I wonder... will the red and black car with the black hood stripes put me in mind of the Confederate flag?
Why does this car keep wanting to trend towards such politically ugly imagery?!

I want the red and black because I want the red and black. I like the BRG but not as much. It's too mature for me, somehow. I think the BRG with the snuggly leather interior is for when I get that "Dr" in front of my name. The hot red car is for right now.
OK. I'm going to order it tomorrow or on Tuesday if they're closed for Memorial Day. WOO!
All the BRG people in here are super classy. And that's what it is--BRG is super classy, and chili red is super LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME. I guess I'm in an attention-seeking phase right now. Hmm, there's no smiley for ::bashful/ashamed grin::, so just picture it.

I went with the BRG, but we have 2 green cars now (and the 2 before that). Not sure how it happened. I just think that the BRG/B looks incredible. I saw red and black on the lot, but my mid-life crisis wasn't big enough.
