The Clubman Bugs and Fixes Thread ... Officially Unofficial

So after 4 days on the road took the Clubman in for a Check Engine light that has been coming on and off. Was on after I picked it up, then for 3 days it was off and now this morning as I was taking it in to get it checked out ... it came on again. It comes on when starting the car, not while driving. Hope its something minor.

Can't complain, they gave me a brand new Z4 for a loaner

I'm certain it will be an easy fix - keep us posted on what they find. And yeah - a Z4 isn't bad as a loaner...

so it was the "Exhaust Vanos Solenoid" ... seems that it was faulty out of the factory. Replaced and all looks ok for now ... fingers crossed.

a few unrelated questions:

- is there a "mute" button for the stereo?
- i realize that there is "auto-up" on the windows now, but how do you open the window just a crack without going crazy with it wanting to go back up?

Haven't found a "mute" button. I think if you just push slightly down on the window controls it works...at least it has for me. Perhaps you're too powerful?

you've met me in person ... you know i am powerful

but really, the auto-up was a nice surprise ... had no idea the new gen had it.

finally figured out the radio also ... it seems like a scinch now ... the confusion of it is great really, keeps passangers away from it

I had trouble cracking the window, but my brilliant wife said try pushing down and quickly push down again - works like a charm

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone in being initially confused by the "radio" etc., but now it's second nature.

Interesting about the windows - I don't think I had to do that, but perhaps it was just intuitive, being a member of the "fairer sex"...

Lurch, where's the HC/Silver picture?

Question: How is a CD paused, short of turning the player off?

that's interesting, will have to try that. I've been pushing down than quickly up to stop it.

another thing ... how do you deactivate the annoying ding and "in your face" gas pump symbol once you reach fill up time (besides filling up )?

Lurch, where's the HC/Silver picture?
In the HC thread

do the barn doors open with the central locking switch on the dash? or do they only open with the key fob?

i am thinking, if and when I take it for a car wash, will the drying crew be left trying to yank them open if i don't remotely open them?

The manual says this:

"The central locking system is ready for operation

whenever the driver's door is closed.
The system simultaneously engages and

releases the locks on the following:

Doors
Tailgate/splitdoor
Fuel filler door"
That's not the answer you were after.
It makes me think unlocked is unlocked for all.

The remote allows you to program unlocking of different doors.
I set mine up to unlock the driver's door only.
Comfort access will allow me to open the barn doors anyway.

You're saying one of those chrome switches unlocks doors? I haven't used it yet.

i programmed my locks to close automatically once the car moves ... just something i was used to from the MC ... but it looks like its best to keep them unlocked.

I did the same, start rolling and lock. I'm keeping it that way.
Hit the dash lock switch tomorrow and see if the back unlocks. I bet it does.

Yes, one of the switches unlocks the doors. I believe it unlocks them all, but don't quote me!

The rear barn doors open and close with the central locking system. Also the right rear barn door pops open when you press the rear door button on the keyfob.

Interestingly, in the Clubman, opening the rear barn doors do not activate the interior lighting...just the trunk light.

By the way, I have my central locking system programmed to open all doors with a single touch of the keyfob button.

The dash switch only locks and unlocks everything. But when unlocked that way, or with the remote, then the right-hand barn door pops open a few inches if you hold the remote opener for a second or so - but not if you just tap it. Or you can open that door manually with the switch behind the external handle.

Just make sure you unlock the car fully before the cleaners take over and they'll be able to open the doors without the remote. Dunno if US-spec cars are the same, or even if this is programmable, but on my car one push on the remote lock switch ONLY unlocks the driver's door (which suits me) and I need to push it twice to unlock the rear doors - or to let my wife get in!

That last option is programmable - opening the driver's with the first click. I'm with you David. I like it that way for safety reasons - as in someone cannot jump in the other side unless I want them to.

My remote acces is set up the same as DLPRUK.
I press the remote unlock twice to let his wife in my Clubman.

Programming the remote was on a list of things I had my Sales Dude do before I left the dealer with the new baby.

Lurch, you had to ask and make me look this morning!

William,
The heated mirrors turn on when the temperature nears freezing (around 37 F/3 C) and the little triangle snowflake icon comes onto tach display.

My first glitsch

My rear wipers are screwy. When I ran the wash feature, the liquid came out, both did one swipe, then one kept swiping, quit - then the other began wiping then quit. I thought - ok, it's just a quirk. Next time, when it was raining, I ran the just-wipe and one started then quit, then the other did one wipe and quit, then the first started wiping for a while, then quit at half-mast. Now one side only will wash/wipe at all, the other is half way up. And it's 150 miles back to the nearest dealer. But I will have to go back soon anyway, since they didn't have my mudflaps when I picked Carmine up originally - been waiting for 6 weeks now for them to get my mudflaps.

sucks about the rear wipers. read some stories on the "other" MINI board about a few people who had them out of synch as well.

but the first time I saw them function in my rearview, I literally LOL'ed ... they are like some small fingers wiping the glass.

thulewx, sorry about your rear wipers. I guess it helps that you have to back to get those mud flaps. When those wipers work, they're quite good - and made me laugh, too.

I've had it washed three times and each time they've closed the doors wrong and jammed them. Guess it's about time I tell them how to do it right. :-)
