R55 4WD offroad Clubby
4WD offroad Clubby
You guys/gals may have already heard about this but when I was collecting my 06 coupe a few weeks ago the dealer told me that they are coming out fairly shortly with a 4wd raised clubby like the audi offroad and other rugged SUV style vehicles. I am quite excited to see how they design it.

Crap. Here we go. Why can't companies just leave a good thing alone. Next thing they'll be "improving" the Cooper and S by making it just a little larger, just a little more plush, soften the ride a bit, add a 6 cyl, an on and on and then you have an American style piece of CRAPOLA! Man I hate this.

If they were replacing the MINI with this MINI brute, I could see your point. However, our beloved cars are being left intact. This is all in the name of market share, which makes sense. Fortunately, we don't have to buy one! Even so, it would be the best looking SUV type vehicle out there!

For those boo-hooing the need for a MINI SUV/crossover/something thing - try finding an SUV, any SUV, that gets better than 20 MPG in city driving. There aren't many. My wife ended up getting a Honda CR-V last year in anticipation of the baby, but if this had been available, well...
Honestly, I'd love to see an Audi Allroad/Subie Outback rallied-out MINI. Something like that could shake up the SUV market the way the Cooper has the compact car market.
And too all who fear this thing will weaken the MINI brand and the rest of the lineup, please kindly direct yourself to Porsche. Everyone said the same thing about the Cayenne, but last time I checked, they still make the 911, not to mention the hotness that is the Cayman.

Wow! That's one powerfully ugly car! Here's an idea- have the side and rear doors meet the roof, no glass at all, and replace the front windshield with a steel plate with a narrow slit through the center. Think how tough you'd look coming down the road in something like that! Hope that photo is just a photoshop, because a car that ugly doesn't deserve the light of day!

My MINI Loves the Dirt too.
I think SUV's are really unecessary - period. (For the majority of drivers). At least 90% of the folks who buy one would just as well be served by a nice european wagon, Volvo, VW, BMW.... etc. etc. I'm not listing the Clubman since it is still a smaller, lesser capacity vehicle, but nevertheless, very useable for the right buyer.
My point being that, 5000 Lb., 12mpg behemoths built on the full frame chassis of yesteryear have seen their heyday, with $4/gal gas, I hope it won't be long before they get those things off the road and outta my way!

If it looks like the one in the link above, I'm getting one for my wife. MINI has to compete and if you play around up in the high country, it seems everyone has a Suburu, Volvo, Audi, Honda, etc with AWD. With the overall quality of MINI along with 4-doors, over 30 MPG, and AWD, the Crossman will sell better than the Clubman I think.
