R55 4WD offroad Clubby
alright dude ur a real comedian, he understood what i was trying to say, but im glad u contributed, even if it is a pathetic use of sarcasm.
That pic is definitely not the crossman...just a concept that will likely never happen.
The crossman is much more like the clubman.

IMO, this looks SOO much better than that other thing.
BTW, this pic is a moc-up based on "insider information" whatever that means...

Well, I might be able to get my wife out of her Odyssey after all! Once my Clubbie comes in, she'll be hooked on the brand, and I can start working on converting her.
For someone that needs a family mover and wants the taller ride-height not to mention the added traction for snow, etc), it would be great.
MINI (I mean BMW) is smart if they stay true to the brand but tweak it just enough to attract people that normally wouldn't buy their standard offering.
For me, as much as I loved the MINI's when they came out, with 2 kids there's no way I could use their car. Then comes the Clubman and guess what....they now have a new customer.

The reason for the Crossman to exist is that there are many drivers out there who would like to be cool MINI motorists (I mean, who wouldn't?
), but just can't fit their lives/minds into a MINI. That's a lot of people...
By the time the Crossman is ready for production, it will unquestionably have that unmistakable MINI look. The Clubman has already stretched the envelope of MINI size, to the dismay of some. Still, the Clubman's cool factor is high and people are digging it. Truthfully, a deciding factor in my decision to buy a Clubman was the room to carry my guitar gear to gigs. I'd alway loved the MINI, but couldn't see a way to make it work for me.
So, is MINI riding high on popularity and just trying to milk the cash cow by trying to export the MINI cool to a MIDI sized car? On the one hand, it sounds like a reasonably intelligent BU$INE$$ decision. On the other hand, it has the potential to both dilute and cheapen the MINI brand. You can bet that the MINI brandsters have considered all that, and have been working feverishly to stay within the MINI conceptual design framework. Time will tell, I guess...

In any case, the Crossman will probably still be MINI-sized. I remember folks balking over Clubman pics because they made the car look bigger than it really was once we saw it in the showroom. I'd expect the 4wd version to still be very MINI.
Anyone who thinks this way really doesn't know Mini. Mini has always had variants, including the clubman, pick-up, etc. Mini has always been about adaptation.
I have to say I agree with you! Like I said earlier, if it weren't for the Clubman I couldn't have seen me buying a MINI. The older variants didn't have as much success as the original car, but certainly were MINIs. From what I have seen, the Crossman is poised for much greater success than other variants (tho the Clubman seems to be doing well). There will just be more people who can experience the pleasure of driving a MINI!
I remember the days when SUV's were not the great big monstrosities that they are now.
I'm thinking of the International Scout 800 and the original Ford Bronco.
Even my Scoutt II had a shorter wheelbase than my Clubman will have.
As long as they keep it small and it bears a family resmblance to the other MINIs I think it will be OK.
Maybe they will put out a MINI pickup...
