R55 Extended Service Contract Overpriced
Extended Service Contract Overpriced
Thanks to all that let me know about the ESC & potential clutch problems. Also thanks for letting me know what you paid for your contract. My dealer, Moritz Mini in Arlington, TX wanted to charge me $2395.00 for mine. I let them know what others were paying & they backed off to $1495.00. I told them if they wouldn't sell it too me for $1400.00 I would drive to another dealer & get it for that. They relented. Finished the paperwork on my HC clubman today with the ESC!
Extended to when?
Who is your warranty issued through? and when does it expire? miles and year?
First, it's not A warranty - It's an extended service contract. It covers servicing (oil changes, belts, hoses, brakes, wipers,Clutch, etc.) to 100K miles. Not sure of the time interval -I'll hit the mile limit first.

mine was provided by the dealer through Mini, I thought... ask the dealer that you plan to buy from. I agree, don't pay more than $1400... they tried to charge me more too.. but, quickly cut the price down when I haggled a little.
If you are going to drive your MINI more than 15K miles a year and plan to keep it for 7-10 years, then the MINI Extended maintenance contract makes sense in your situation. It extends the basic 3 year/36K mile included dealer maintenance to 6 years or 100K miles whichever occurs first.
And do not pay more than $1,400 for the plan which has to be purchased at your MINI dealer and the car's key has to be provided to the service advisor to get a reading from the key reading and confirm your mileage, VIN, build sheet and In-service date.
Some dealers are grossly marking it up. Shop around but remember that you can not purchase it "online" because of the key requirement to underwrite the contract.

WHy couldn't you "priority mail" a spare key to a dealer across the country that may want to give NAM members a break?
I am currently looking into the Extended maintenance contract, and I am not very happy with the only dealer in the WI.
I would be glad to hear from anyone with info.
Thanks

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does the EMC cover ??
I'd guess routine stuff like oil changes, etc. I've heard differing coverages, however.
Brake rotors ?? From what I understand, if pads wear out in the for 36K miles, Mini replaces them. A worn out rotor is done at my cost.
And the clutch ?? If it wears out / breaks in the first 100K miles, the ESC would seem to be a great deal.
Thanks for the info !!!

Includes the entire clutch kit, brake pads/rotors (Both of which must be worn down below MINI safe specs), light bulbs, all filters, wiper inserts, oil/filters, etc
I have the plan in my 2005 MCS and 2 months ago they replaced my brake pads/rotors under the plan.
Best $1400 spent ever.

ESC Now?
I've contacted MINI USA and they tell me it is up to the individual dealership.

ESC vs EWC
I think not! Beside the service guy convinced me that all I was really getting was a couple of years of Oil changes for that price. In my case not quite worth it.He did clue me in on several options for an Extended Warranty Contract though. Everything from 3 yr/36k to 8yr/100k from the date purchased and whatever milage is on the MINI at that time. I have to take Winnie in one more time before my 9/17/2008 warranty expires to have some tweeking done so I'll get more detail at that time.
Anyone having any dealings with this Please let me know.
