The Clubman's will not be 'branded' or noted in any way that they are a Clubman, but rather just Cooper or Cooper S. With most of the early builds and reviews - I'm sure to fight off any reports of it being to 'under powered' - they're pushing mostly S models to the press.
So the non S doesnt have the weird rear end coloring ?
That's what I noticed, too. Interesting. And it would also mean that the Cooper version's quarter panel trim could be used if you wanted to paint the S model normally in the rear.
And if that photo is the real McCoy then the Cooper.... non-S models don't have the funky taillights that we've been seeing. Hmmm....

Almost 100% sure this is a photochop. The rear tailgate and window are more slanted and rounded than other photos of actual Clubmans and the rear side windows don't taper enough. The rear seat headrests sit way high. The rear spoiler appears different as well, hinting that this is a hatchback. The rear wiper doesn't rest the same as other photos either, appearing to be one larger wiper. And if you look at the roofline almost directly above the rear seat headrest, a slight dip in the roofline hints that it might be a chop. A few other inconsistencies also. Is it possible that these are all styling differences between the S and the base Cooper Clubman? Sure. I like the look, but I don't buy it for the real thing.
Compare with this one for reference...

Sorry guys, I was just skimming through some Google images and grabbed one that was a Cooper. I should have paid more attention to the photo.
The one I posted is definitely not accurate when compared to the production model.
Okay you're all missing the point. Haha.
MINIUSA.com shows it as a Cooper S.
But what I'm trying to say is... it's NOT a Cooper S!
It's a Clubman! And if the Clubman has an S version, so be it...
Why is BMW/MINI slapping the Cooper S badge on there?
I think it's ridiculously embarassing...
It's all about what name BMW still owned the rights to. They wanted to call it the Traveller but couldn't. I'm still going to call the Clubman that. Just seems right & proper to me.

agreed
First person to fit traveller/estate style mirrors on the new model wins

I think they are doing it to give folks like us something to banter about
