Need Help to shup up my friends

I got my MCSc in Nov. some of my friends still didn't know I got a new car. When they found out ,they say stuff like WHY? then HOW MUCH? I tell 30K ,then they say== " with that kind of money you could have bought a BMW or a Mercedes " then I usually tell them 'but I didn't want a BM or a Benz, this is what I want " You know ,they sort of expected me to have gotten a nice Civic or Camry . I need some help defending my MCSc... Give me a good line...

Being your friends, they should respect you when you say "but I didn't want a BM or a Benz, this is what I want."

1. Get new friends.

2. Let them drive it and then they will shut up.

Im with the hand them the keys crowd.

Anyone who is curious about my car can drive it. Heck, I've even given it away for a weekend to someone who was curious about Minis! Guess what. They bought one.

Also, don't let it bother you. If they really knew anything about cars, they'd say "cool ride! When can we go to lunch with the top down?" IF they new anything about life, they;d know there's a lot of ways to skin the transportation cat. IF they new anything about BMWs and Mercedes, I'd love to see what they think they'd get new for $30k. The 3 series starts at $40k, put that sweet twin turbo in a cabrio and your talking over $50k out the door!

Drive, enjoy, smile, and don't worry.

Matt

one of my friend first saw the MCSc and the same lame comments so I took him for a very spirited ride and he said" wow nice car,I'm glad you got it,you deserved something nice like this, life's too short ,have a great time..." Now ,not all of our friends are like that,so I'm asking,How do I shut those other guys up?

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

My favorite is just staring at people in silence with the most still and expressionless look for 30 seconds. Create an akward moment for them to dwell in.

Then smile. Hop in your mini with them in the passenger seat. And show them just what the $30k really bought.

My favorite answer is, "if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand the answer."

You could have bought a BMW for 30K? Really? What Bimmer convertible sells for 30K? Sign me up...

oh wait, BMW makes the mini...

Only my MCSCm and my WRX ever pasted this much of a smile on my face...really, if you argue against a convertible, from a drop top benz to a beat up lebaron, something is wrong with you...imo.

I think your friends have a point. $30k for a Mini is a bit excessive. The S was under $20k list when it was first introduced. For $30k, you could get an S2000, an Sti or an Evo.

Ask them, "Who wants to own a plane Jane boring car that everybody in the world owns one of?" MB has a terrible quality record, a pos. The only redeeming factor about BWM owning MINI is the English part helping improve BMW's poor quality.

You could say: It IS a BMW; or, 2., just knowingly smile. It will drive them nuts. I've owned 7 Benz's, 5 new, 2 used and, while they were great cars, none were a fun as the MINI and, except for the used ones, cost almost twice as much as my loaded up 07 MCS.

Strap your most "vocal" critic into the passenger seat, hand them a paper bag, and take them on the twistiest piece of highway you can find at the highest speed you can handle (legally, of course). A few high "G" corners riding shotgun will shut him up for good.

Damn, I was planning to do that "by accident." Hope my wife doesn't read this post.

I don't understand why anyone would care what their freinds say about their car. Do they like, criticise your t-shirts as well? Do they comment on your girl friend/partner? Don't they have a life of their own.

I have noticed some comments from time to time from my friends about my my car. I could care less, of course, and I just say, "Its for fun."

Next time they ask why you decided to buy that car, ask them why they decided to be such A-hole friends! Actually, I had the same problem and after a 'test drive' through the hills of Placerville, that shut them up! It's funny because now when they want to borrow/swap cars, I always reply," But why would I want to drive your P.O.S. car?

Ive had people and friends say a lot about my car. Mostly, I get the same attack I normally do, usually people calling me gay. Or saying its a girls car. I just ignore them though. Thats the best thing you can do. They will learn to love the Mini Over time.

Well, since BMW owns Mini then so much for that. And if they say Benz - tell them you don't want CRAP. Had a brand new 2003 C320. Owned it 8 months. In shop - 8 times. Loaner car - once (a volvo with what seemed to be a full box of cheerios spread across the back seat). Service - none existent. Plus, when did any other car make so many people smile like a Mini Cooper
