Why you should feel safe driving a 'vert

The unfortunate happened this past Sunday, I was in an accident in my beloved MINI Boo. The car wound up flipping onto it's side and began to roll onto the roof. There was a fence which stopped the car from completely rolling and we came to a stop with the car laying on the passenger side. My passenger and I were both able to unbuckle ourselves, get out of the car and walk away with no more then some sore muscles and a scrapped arm. It says alot about the MINI that she saved our lives.

These pics aren't for the faint at heart, I broke down crying when we saw the car. We really are lucky to have made it out relatively unharmed.

And this is my "I made it out of this rolled MINI alive" pic (and yes I was still crying in the pic)

Not yet sure if the car will be totalled, the insurance adjuster is going to see the car today. Either way I will be walking away from this MINI, as I wouldn't feel safe driving the car after I knew what it had been through. Luckily my dealer has already found me a replacement.
You can all feel a little bit safer now driving your 'verts, and sneer at people (as I used to and will continue to) when they say things like "how do you feel safe driving that car."

Wow, Meg... soooooooooo sorry to read about your accident !! Looks like MINI Boo took quite the spill.

Another example of the MINI engineering providing a safe environment for the driver. The aches and pains and scrapes will heal quickly... very glad you weren't hurt seriously, of course !

Appears perhaps to be mostly superficial damage to MINI Boo and maybe they can put her back together for you and make her "good as new".

Keep us filled in on the decision of the insurance company and her repair (or replacement).

Take care !

I'm sorry too. We've lost a MCC also. They're tough little guys.

Brought tears to my eyes too, looking at those pics. So glad you're safe, and your story makes me feel more secure about my soon-to-be-mine convertible. What a scary thing to have happen.

Happy to see hear that you and your passenger walked away from this with only scratches and soreness.

The Mini is by far a safe car and my wife and I feel very comfortable and safe driving our Mini .

Meg,

Very sorry to hear about your accident and the car...but I am very happy that you are okay. That, of course, is the most important thing.

I will look forward to seeing pictures of the new car soon!

Chuck

Sorry about your accident and the loss of your beloved MINI, but we're glad to hear that you and your friend are okay.

We were in an accident in Gromit and even though it wasn't as severe as your accident, the car protected us well. We are sold on the safety of these little cars.

Good luck with your new MINI.

First, we are ALL _VERY_ glad to see you are OK after such a horrible crash. It is a testament to the brand that you are able to walk away from such a crash. We should all be proud.

Second, how did this happen? MINI's are SOOO stable, I can't figure out how you rolled it!? Slippery road? Ice? It might be worth the description so we may avoid it...

Again, glad your Guardian_MINI was on the job!

Very sorry to hear about this - I can't imagine what it felt like, and it must have been very scary. Looks like the car did its job though - protecting its passengers. Thanks for posting the pics though - it gives great insight into the safety features of this car.

As a fellow cabrio owner, I wanted to add my condolences on the loss of Boo but am glad you weren't hurt.

Out of curiousity, do you know if the convertible top was still in working order after the accident? It looks from the photos as if the assembly held up pretty well. I've always wondered how strong the sides of the top are - it looks like they're pretty darn strong.

Can't wait to see pics of Son/Daughter of Boo.

If you looked at the front of the car the frame around the windshield on the passenger side is smushed down and the roof is actually pushed back. I didn't try to see if it would open, but I would think it probably wouldn't.

Wow Meg - glad to hear that you were able to walk away from that! Painful shots of Boo. We totalled our old SUV and the whole incident was both over in a heartbeat, and seemed to go in slow motion. I'd love to know how that is possible....

That last pic had me in tears.

The important thing is that you are okay.

As mentioned already... glad you're ok meg. The damage didn't look so bad in the pics, but sometimes they can't give you the best feel for what really happened. Glad to hear the insurance totaled it and you can get a new MINI. Another cabrio, right??

Again, glad you're ok. Think of your new MINI as an early Xmas present
