New Idea Cabrio Roof Graphics

Just a thought,I really wanted to make my cabrio stand out a bit more so I have this idea to have industrial Velcro strategically glued to the top of my cabrio canvas top so that I could mount a canvas/cloth checker graphic. Of course once the Velcro is on it will be permanent. But the graphics could be changed as frequent as my mood. Back in the day I had a harness company for out door equipment and still have the machinery to make this a reality. If I could make this work real nice would some of you be interested in purchasing a kit for your cabrio’s? This would not only be limited to checker graphics. Please vote:What are your thoughts on this matter cool or really, really crazy?

I'm having a tough time imagining something I think I'd like. I will keep working with it and try to keep an open mind. You think the velcro will hold on at 80? It sure would be totally irreversible, short of a new top.

big VELCRO! I have found it in 12 diameter strips fairly inexpensive.

Umm, how would you see the graphic with the top down?

You would only see it 10% of the time at the most.

The picture that pops into my mind makes me think I wouldn't like it, would have to see it done in person. Plus I would worry that having velcro & an extra layer of fabric on my top would interfere with its operation &/or cause the motor to wear out prematurely & then there is the whole voiding of any warranty on your top by Mini.

Having a cabrio roof decal from Cooper Flags makes me stand out enough

That is my concern too. If it could be in a balistic nylon or parachute type material that might be light enough.

I can't imagine the top looking even more bulky than it already does being a good thing.

Union Jack

The September '05 issue of 'Go MINI' magazine has a pic of a replacement convertible top that looks like the Union Jack (full graphic from front to back) available from Mini Mania of England. Listed cost was 716 english pounds.

I have a hard time thinking this would work. The front edge in sunroof mode is a tight fit. It would be tough even on velcro. I think the extra material in the fully open position would put your sensors out of position. I've had them work on my sensors and you don't want that to happen. It's a lot of adjustment and time. The easiest way to get a roof graphic is to by another MINI. It'll be cool to have to in your driveway.

Dyed tops..

The should come out with a series of dyed convertible tops.. instead of black or blue etc.. they should make like a checkered one where the cloth has been dyed white boxes or bleached off.. its a start i guess
