Hi kids,
I have decided to wait to order my MCSC until the 2007s are available, and have a question. I just switched from glasses to contacts. When I test drove the MCSC, it was daytime, and my sunglasses did a good job keeping the wind off my peepers (and drying the contacts). I tried an experiment in my suv last night - opened the sunroof and all the windows (including the rear window in the 4runner) to get as close as I could to a convertible experience. My peepers were feeling a bit dried out after a few minutes.
Any of you wear contacts and found things to help the top down experience?
Thanks!

I have extended wear contacts. I put them in and they don't come out for two weeks. Then I usually go 24 hrs with glasses then back in with a new pair of contacts. Got my 2006 MCS convertible in Feb. (this is my fourth convertible) and I never have a problem with my eyes/contacts drying out.
Hope that helps!!

Just checking that you do know the 07 'vert will be the same as the 06s (as far as I've heard). I suppose there will be new colors and perhaps new options, maybe a different ECU, but will not be the new body or engine..

Love my Lasik. Best $2000 I ever spent.
(Of course my MINI is the best $30,000 I ever spent.

Thanks all!
My contacts are the type that I take out every evening and pop back in upon wakeup. Good tips though. With the money I save on gas, maybe I can afford the lasik!
Is it true that the Cabrio is not updated for 2007? If so, why am I sitting here - I need to go order my car!
Thanks for the assist!

Exerpt from Motoringfile:
"the current MINI convertible (which will remain in production relatively unchanged for two more years)"
You might want to check that article out, it discusses potential changes to Sept production cars:

Cheers and go get yer Mini
PS: Not everyone is a good candidate for Lasik (I'm not from what the doc says about my eyeballs), and there can also be complications - be sure do your research before getting it done

When I first got Fayt, I got a lot of crud in my eyes driving around, even with my sunglasses on.
I bought myself some "wrap-around" style and this helps immensely. I bet the "shield" style would be even better, but I have yet to find those with nose pads, and since I don't really have a nose bridge, they just slide down to my cheeks!
You guys are lucky with your Lasik! My husband had his done a few years back, but he says his eyes are getting bad again.

lets just say trippy!
I've never had a convertible, but have been wearing contacts for 14 years and will say this: I have more trouble driving for long periods with the A/C on than with fresh air blowing on me from the windows+sunroof being open.
If you just started wearing your contacts, it does take a while for your eyes to fully adjust to having something in them all the time
(I think when I first started wearing them my doctor made me wear them for a certain period, then take them out for a while and so on for about a month or longer). Plus, those rewetting drops are great. I always have some around just in case.
I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what works best for you, but I don't think it will be too big of a deal.

I used to wear hard contact lenses before Lasik and I never let the wind from a convertible stop me from driving fast with the top down. You'll be fine. Buck up, buy a bottle of rewetting drops, invest in some nice shades, and you'll be spittin' "game" in no time (if that's what you're into).
I had the bladeless wavefront eye correction done in November. It was expensive at $4,800 but I think it is a good idea to go to the best doctor you can afford.
I used to hear people say how it changed my life and I thought, yeah right. Well, I remember waking up and seeing the alarm clock. OK, that's cool. I opened the shades and not only saw the trees outside, but the detail of the leaves, the birds hopping from branch to branch, etc. On my drive to work, I took the long route along the coast and saw things I never noticed during the many years I've lived in the area. What a change it has made in my life!

Thanks again!
Until I can afford the lasic, the consensus seems to be that contacts and convertibles are not a bad combo. Now I just need to figure out what interior I want to order - cloth or leatherette.....
FYI for sunglasses, I got my wraparound style H2Optix at costco - they were relatively inexpensive, and have great nose pads to keep em from slipping down my nose....
Can't wait to motor topless.....

I don't know what interior I would pick on a vert. I had cloth in my MR2. It was ok. But, summer storms are rare in LA, so I never worried about leaving the top down.
PRK is an earlier technique that fell out of favor when Lasik came into being, but with the many complications of Lasik, an improved PRK is making a comeback and some feel it will replace Lasik in some situations.....but for the curious, look at
some worst case scenarios and personal reactions at:

go to 'bulletin board' then go to 'eye openers' then look at personal post-op stories

I had Lasik just this past January, so I still have some dry eye, the rewetting drops definately help while motoring around topless. I wore contacts for years and found they were always drying out at the slightest dry environment or breeze. I recommend Lasik, but you must do your homework as Climbergirl stated and if you qualify.
Yeah, I agree, it's almost windier with the sun roof and windows open. More in your face wind...I think.
Best of luck with your MINI purchase!!

I had my PRK done by the Navy. They prefer PRK over LASIK due to the higher risk of complications, and the risk of the flap becoming dislodged or even torn off long after the healing process is complete.
