The Cabrio Button Cover Sticker!

One of the cool things you get with a new cabrio is the little cover over the droptop button that discourages you from closing the top. I left mine on for several months and recently removed it so I could scan the sticker for future use.

Over the weekend I met Sunshine MINIs member Snooter at a rally and he still had the button cover on his cabrio. His sticker, however, was in bad shape. So I offered to send him a scan.

In doing that I realized that some more of you cabrio folks might like to have the scan, so here it is!

Have fun out there!

Cool!

I think I'm going to print it out as a photo and adhere it to a magnet backing. Protect it with vinyl. I can make it again and again if I need to.

I came to the realization that the smartest thing to do when my sticker got ragged was to remove that whole plastic casing. It popped right off & the interior actually looks more sleek without it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved that cheeky lil sticker but my plastic door started flapping in the wind when the top was down & it just wasn't worth all the hassle

I don't have a cabrio, but I had a friend of mine whip up a vinyl copy of that sticker to put next to the sunroof controls. Came out really nice:

I kinda liked mine there but the sticky wore off. Any suggestions on what to use to put it back?

Thanks for the scan. My plastic housing melted this weekend at MITM and I had to take it off. Now I can make a bigger sticker to maybe cover the ugly airbag warnings on the visor! Thanks!

Hey, thanks! I never had a button cover :-( I didn't miss it too much cause I thought it might slow me down when I was trying to open the top, but I did wish I had one for sentiments sake!

Wow. That vinyl decal looks great. Any way to get the high-resoultion file that was used to make that? I think it would make a great shirt too.

You should be able to get some glossy sticker stock for an inkjet printer and print some new ones using the scan. Just make sure you change the output so that it's actual size. Or maybe one of those vinyl shops could print out a sheet of them for you so you can replace as they wear out.

That's awesome MINI Bee. Thanks for the post! I was sort of missing my cover since the sticker fell off now I can put it back on. It's just one of those little things that makes the Mini a bit more special than an ordinary car.

Its the little things that count...

Thanks, Mini_Bee! I got one of the early cabrios, before the flip-switch and always missed having one. I tried to get my local dealer to give me one, but they never had any. Now I'll make my own!

I was at Ferman MINI today to get my first service and asked about the cabrio button cover to see if I could get some spares. Apparently they were installed on the 2005 cabrios and continued into early 2006, then they stopped including them. The service tech said they haven't had them for months and they can't get them anymore. So it's a regular collector's item! He also said that a lot of people in Florida have had them melt.

My plastic housing also melted - ambient temperatures were 115 degrees F, and I had the windows open to vent the interior, FWIW.

Thanks for the scan, MINI_Bee!

There

used to be a really cool bumper sticker that said Is My Top down call this # .... and when you called it had like funny choices for hitting yourself and stuff, I really wish I got one back then. Anyone have one?

As for my button cover, mine fell off a few months ago, the sticker was 1/2 peeled off and the cover and then the glue on the cover was all but gone. It did become a pain after a while to open it then press the button. But everyone who saw it liked it.

Thanks Mini-Bee... Didn't get one of these in my car, so I'm happy to see it. I'll print it off and put it above the button.

I bought my cabrio pre-loved and it didn't come with this sticker nor have I ever seen it. I think it's great! Two thumbs up for sharing!

I was thinking about putting it on a Tshirt as well - but if I just had one printed...it'd be an outrageous price... But if I did a small quantity (say 25 or 50), would anyone be interested? (I wonder if it'd be a copyright issue?)

You can use CafePress and print single shirts at quite good prices (maybe $15, depends on shirt type). Quality not as good as professionally done, but OK for personal use.

I'd love a T-shirt with the sticker on. We might need to add a picture of a car, though, so no one got the wrong inpression... (grin)

Interested in shirts?

There is a web site - www.cafepress.com - where you can easily make a shirts and lots of other items with any design. All you have to do is create a jpg of your image, and upload it to the site. Prices are reasonable, even for just one item.

I have no affiliation wtih the site, but I have used them several times for various projects, and I've always been pleased with the results.

Enjoy!

I think I'm going to take bamatt's advice...I like the sticker too, but my little "door" is flapping in the wind as well. I hate to see it go, but them's the breaks! One of the plastic "pegs" which holds the door in place is broken (unfortunately this was the way I got it from the dealership). I'm glad to hear that the interior looks a bit "sleeker" without it.
