Cigarette Lighter in Trunk (Bonnet ?)

I am patiently (yeah right) waiting for my mini convertible. I am wondering if the Cooper Convertible has a cigarette lighter, aka power source in the trunk area ? I have seen it before but I think it was on an MCcS.

My MCSC has an outlet/lighter in the back. Can't tell you for sure about the MCC though.

All MINIS have the power outlet in the back irreguardless of MC vs MCS or tin top vs drop top.

Most convertable owners haven't stuck their head in the boot to see the darn thing. It is up at the top of the left side panel in the boot.

If I am remembering correctly when you open the boot, it is along the back edge of the boot(not the boot door) in the middle. It is there(I have used it), just not exactly sure where.

If I remember correctly....

the hood is the bonnet

the roof is the lid

the trunk is the boot

the interior is the cabin or cockpit (I can't remember which)

Now that should set the cat amongst the pigeons!

Except for us 2003 owners. The outlet was there in '02, dropped in '03, and re-appeared in 2004.

My '02 (June production) does not have one either. It does have a capped off hole in the trim panel. Anyone know how to retrofit the cigar lighter?

Thanks all of you for your posts. I will still keep my fingers crossed that she comes with a power tap in the back.

It should. It's hard to find as it faces towards the FRONTof the car- you need to reach for it with your hand or stick your head in the trunk and look DOWN and BACK towards yourself to see it. It's about halfway between the center line and the left edge of the trunk opening, as I recall- haven't plugged in anything back there yet, but I know I felt for it and found it with little problem.

Speaking of which... I'd sort of like to run an extension cord from the rear plug, under/between the rear seats and under the center console, so I can plug my MP3 player in without having to block the cramped, tiny center console tray... *IS* there such a thing as a 6' or 8' foot "extension" cord with one female and one male outlet of this type? Also, I assume that the rear power outlet works the same as the front one, i.e. it turns off when the ignition is switched off?

I went behind that trim panel through the access panel to the tool kit and I found an unused wire pair ending in a standard double spade connector. Any chance this is for the (as of yet) non-existent lighter? I'll see if it has 12v at the appropriate times. If so, anyone know the part number for the rear power receptacle?

Do the non-convertibles have this too?

Any luck with this yet? I have an '03 that I would like to retrofit with a rear lighter as well.

yes...it does turn off with the ignition key. found out the hard way using it for the kid's DVD player. stopped to gas up and had to restart their movie for them. still a very convenient feature to power stuff up while driving.

Yep, we ran an extension cord up front for my son's DVD and had the same experience. No biggie - if it really bugs me, I can run a fused wire from the battery for constant power... I hate doing that though - seems like I always forget and leave something on when I do that and drain the battery.

Careful with that cig lighter in the boot....

I caught the three gnomes I'd purchased at the Lawn & Garden center lighting up some , er, illegal contraband, whilst en route to my home. Now all gnomes are required to ride in the back seat with no access to hot surfaces.

The chart on your fusebox cover (drivers footwell) should show one with a cigarette icon. The same fuse is used by both front and rear sockets.
