Are you a convertible person?

I saw this recently on AOL and it is a great site! It has all sorts of information to decide if you are really a "convertible person" or not, as well as a fun quiz and other cool information. For instance, how many of you know what kind of convertible was responsible for Isodora Duncan's freaky death?

The Mini Cabrio is mentioned in the "Basic Convertible" category which I think is an outrage! OK, so it's not a Lotus, or a Boxster, but c'mon...."basic"???

When I read the part about tooling around in a topless MG, I remembered the car I learned to drive in and the one that I used through high school and college, a 1968 BRG Triumph TR-250. I had so many fun times in that little car, and until I got my MCSc last year, forgot how much fun the 'verts are!!

It's fun to be in the "2%" club!!

Here's the site - enjoy!

Sadly, I don't think I'm the convertible type...the sun down here is absolutely brutal!!! I had one convertible, a '67 Spitfire. It was fun...as is the MINI carbio...but the Texas sun is a deal-breaker for me personally. Ah, but there are days........(especially in Spring, Fall, Winter)

I'm a ragtop guy....

and a lot of the points in the article are good, but I gotta say that the catagories they use blow some serious chow! And someone should tell them that Cabriolet is French for convertable.... It's not a class of car.... Oh well....

Right on, Matt! I saw that too! And - I'll bet there are also those who think that Cabriolet is a nice wine to enjoy with their steak

Yeah, and some people are naive. They think Cabriolet is just a type of old Volkswagon and not another word for Convertible. Do we MINI people need to educate everyone?

Didn't read the article. Just looked at the pictures. Figured that since I'm now own my fourth convertible, that I'm a "convertible person".

If there definition of "Cabriolets" are four seaters, why isn't the mini there? Last time I check my daughter wasn't seating in the trunk, but in the back seat.

Good question! Unless it's the "accents of luxury" aspect of the description that they felt the MINI didn't have... The "cabriolets" they featured were all larger cars, too - with the exception of the Porsche Carrera. I totally disagree with the placement of the Carrera in this category - if I was the one who spent 70K - 80K on one, I'd be ticked that it was not considered in the "luxury" category!

Personally, I think the Mini deserves its OWN category - it's too quirky and unique to be categorized with the Ford Mustang!!

I don't understand your angst here. Its certainly not a roadster, hardcore, luxary or exotic by any means. That leave Basic or Cabrio. The Cabrio all were $20K+ plus more than MINI so it is placed appropraitley as basic convertible. If you can get one for $23K, why would you expect it to be classed with Audis, Bimmers, Mercedes and Porsche? MINIs are, basically, cheap transportation within this set of cars. (as well as mustangs)

Angst?

That's why I put a "wink" after my comment...

(I really have more things than this that I could be upset about!)

Now that would be downright sensible.

I had a Fiat Spyder 2000 in my college days. If you see me now you think I'm dark, but I was so dark then, I was purple! My top didn't stay up because my latch was broken. Poor, remember? Well I finally gave it away (literally) but always missed the wind in my hair. Recenly bought my baby Fayt, and I don't think I'll ever go back to hardtop again - unless, somehow Mini makes a hardtop convertible down the line. Hmmm.

BTW - Thanks for the Zantac Gerldoc!

Your baby Fayt is one bee-you-ti-full car! I just LOVE the stripes with the BRG! I grew up with a BRG 1968 Triumph TR-250 (which I no longer have) and Fayt reminds me so much of my dear old Triumph...
I am so glad the Zyrtec helped (I knew what you meant! )

Now what is your husband's car's name?? I think you two deserve a special place in the "his n'hers" Mini club. Hmmmm. I wonder if there is a thread about that already on NAM? Interesting one to start, if not
