Trunk release button broken?

Hello. This post is regarding the little button on the driver's side near the floorboard that releases the trunk/rear hatch/tailgate. Recently, it appears that something popped off the button, and now it no longer depresses. Not only that, but my trunk no longer latches. Luckily, it doesn't fly open while I'm driving. Nevertheless, I'd prefer a latched trunk. Do I need to replace the button? Or can I fix the non-latching problem some other way?

Hello,

Do you have the right model, on the R52 Convertible there is no button like that? Can you show me a picture of what you are talking about?

Just inside the driver's side door.

what's left of the tiny trunk release button

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I was told it's an R52. It's a 2005 convertible mini.

I have never seen that before. That's not a factory part, someone added that. My Guess it that its a button for something else or to hold down the floor matt or to hold the panel back?

That's interesting. Well, the button has been opening my trunk, but something popped off the button, and now the trunk won't latch. I'm not attached to opening the trunk via the button, but now I can't even close the trunk securely (ever since the button thing popped off). Phooey! I miss the old days of opening the trunk with the key.

Yes, thats some custom pop kit. I would try to find a new button, looks like universal one you get at a car store? I would take that panel off and get a new button. If you can find a name on it or on the add on motor in the trunk, you might have to check on the trunk panel and /or behind the carpet panel in the trunk to see whats going on.

Ok, thanks. That's helpful. Do you think it's the broken button that's keeping the trunk from latching now? It sure seems like it since they both happened at the same time. I just don't understand why. But then, I don't understand much of anything about cars. :-(

Yea, i bet since that plunger on the button is gone, it cannot trigger. Or set itself?
