Cool - I gotta admit I'm kind of excited to see how the Cabrios handle and generally perform over the hatch. Perhaps this could become the Official MCS Cabrio On-Order thread?!

Good luck, keep us posted, and of course, PICTURES!
Cheers,
Ryan

I was watching motorweek on TV last week and they had a little segment on the cabrio. The top goes down in 15 seconds and the weight is greater by only 80 pounds? How could it be so little?

If it's true that would be better than several hundred pounds.
The 7 more HP would offset the added weight.

I think that you have to listen to what they said closely. I believe they said that the CHASSIS was 80 pounds heavier not the entire car. Also remember that the sunroof is heavier than the plain roof, and the person who would buy the convertible "S" would probably have the sunroof model as the other option.

I believe that all totalled, the Convertible is 125 lbs. heavier than the Sunroof hatchback, which is like carrying your wife around without having to listen to her talk, an OK tradeoff.

Congrats on your order. I'm soooo jealous.

I would LOVE to get a convertible but I couldn't bear to part with Nittany.

I've had thoughts of selling the other car and having two MINIs but the practical part of me says if I sell that car I should really get something a bit more practical for those trips over to Lowes, etc.

Then again, I've never owned a convertible and I've only ever ridden in one once in my life for about 15 minutes. I have wanted some sort of convertible for as long as I can remember. So the other part of me says, you only live once and maybe I should consider it.

Unfortunately, I think I know which side is going to win out.

If it helps the good side listen to this: Buy the convertible, buy the convertible, buy the convertible (chant with me), buy the convertible, buy the convertible (that's it.....keep going), buy the convertible, buy the convertible.....there that wasn't so bad....

What a fantastic color combo! I've never seen a pic of a top-color other than black. Was it hard to sort through these colors sight unseen or did you have something (...like a color sample) to go from? Wow and congrats!!!!!

Congrats! I'd like to see how the roof opens part of the way like a sunroof. Seems like it would have no support.

Godspeed.

Convertible on Order

Greetings all!

Here are some answers to your questions:

1. It goes 0-62 in 7.4 seconds which is slower than than normal s by about .6

2. I purchased it from Classic Mini who is the BEST dealer of Mini's in the US. I cant tell you the price or they will kill me. This is my second Mini. Two weeks ago they had a BBQ for over 150 Mini Cooper owners. Julie is the best. Also at the BBQ they had a British Racing Green Convertible to look at. It was awesome.

3. I picked out the colors from some of the International Mini sites, especially the UK and Italy. The dealer did have 1 brochure to show me. I hope it turns out smashing as the Brits would say.

4. It is due to be completed on August 27th for September delivery. I can hardly wait.

I have my order set for Jan,2005.

What may stop my order is the problem Oxford is having on the wear through and fade on the convertible canvas and the rattles that the havn't been able to fix.
I hope you will not have them on your Cabrio.
Good Luck

Wedge,

My Cabrio is due to be completed the same time as yours. Perhaps they'll be berth mates! Mine looks exactly like the demo you saw. I ended up seeing it twice, once in Rockford & once in Memphis. It was love at first sight:smile:

Wedge:

I was torn between Cool Blue and Pure Silver and in the end went with Silver because I never could see a real Cool Blue.

Let's get that assembly line rollin'!!!

"sun roof" workings

Not sure if I'm describing this right....but to get the sunroof effect, the actual roof structure does not retract at all. The front section of canvas simply slides open on the roof structure which is still firmly attached. Only the second stage (full top down) retracts the frame.

I went & saw the Cabrio at MINI of STL on Friday. The guy actually let me sit in the car & push the buttons. For the sunroof option, the frame stays in place & the ragtop retracts about 2 feet. Just enough to open over the front seats. Push it again & the arms pop out of their locking device & the whole roof folds back. It was pretty cool:smile: All the windows go down also including the little ones in the back seat. Yes, the Cabrio has back seat windows & you can put them down even if the top is up. BTW, the Brits call the top a "hood".

I am SO excited for all the MINIacs with Cabrios on order! Can't wait to see them motoring about...especially at MINIs On The Dragon next May! How cool that the rear windows can be put down! Excellent!

Now, JoeDentist: you don't like to listen to your wifey talk? Bummer!

Big congrats to Wedge, Lois, and all y'all who have Cabrios in the pipeline! YAY!

Well you can add me to the list, sorta. I put down a deposit today on a 2005 Cooper S Cabrio, Dark Silver, black top, Cold weather pkg, xenons, f&r fogs, MFSW, OBC, Auto a/c, and LSD. It's not definite, depends on what I can get for my current car, but we shall see. At least I'm first on line for a Cabrio with LSD at Westchester MINI.

I'm thinking of getting a convertible in another year and a half or so when I hit 100k miles on my S. But I think I might put that new turbocharging kit coming out this fall - a twincharged convertible...with about 280hp.

Convertible as sun roof

I read that you can not exceed 75 miles an hour when the top is in the sunroof position. I better not let the wife drive it! I have the Navigation Control on my current mini. Does anyone know where the shark fin will be located on the Convertible? Also, is everyone getting the Chrome Interior Package? Much, Much cheaper than the aftermarket sellers.

I may be mistaken but I think you read that you can OPERATE the sunroof open or close at up to 75 MPH. I don't recall a speed limit for driving with it open.

Sunroof

It will be interesting to see how much we actually use the sunroof. I plan on having that baby topless as much as possible.

I went Chrome Interior and Exterior. Let's hope it looks good .

That's a good attitude!! There's a "Contract" you'll have to sign when you pick up your MINI Convertible. It states that you agree to have the top down 90% of the time...
