R52 HELP: Small broken part inside SunRoof Assembly
HELP: Small broken part inside SunRoof Assembly
I have an 05 Convertible that has a small broken part inside the passenger side rail of the sunroof assembly. It is not the cable drive system, but rather the metal and plastic connecting rod that pulls the locking hook open. This rod slides inside a channel in the rail, and a plastic tab broke off the aft end of moving part, and now the the passenger side does not unlatch. (see pictures below)
My question: Can this small sliding part be removed from the assembly and repaired or replaced? There is no part number, as the original part only comes inside the sunroof assembly u-frame (about $1800). I may be able to repair/rebuild/replace from salvage, if in fact I can remove and install the internal part. Any experience out there for this specific failure. Local mini shop's solution is replace sunroof assembly ($3000 including labor). Thanks
