I found this MINI listed on ebay for sale. It has sustained very bad rear-end damage. Such, that I don't think it is salvageable. However, the seller says all it needs is a new "rear clip"... HUH? On a MINI?, I think the unibody is toast! I could be wrong though... I thought I'd see what other opinions were, here's the LINK

I see over 12K in repairs there !

Driver had foot on the brake and the offending vehicle rode right up on top.

Top, tank, rear suspension are probably toast.......and that's just some of the stuff you can't see. Also see a CEL and ABS light so braking system could have some damage too...

May as well look for an undamaged one....

 

I was going to say 8 - 10K in repairs but I think that GR is probably closer. Either way I would pass as you will simply be paying way too much to repair it.

 

I would definitely stay clear of any wrecked cars. I had a bad experience with a used car that was slightly damaged on the outside but the entire internals where f@3ked up.

 

In my opinion it would not be worth the hassle. Too much work with no guarantee it will be fixed correctly. Plus an 07 convertible is supercharged, not turbo as listed.

 

$9500 for that wreck, are they nuts? The cost to buy it along with the cost of repairs will push the total cost to the 20K range, which is what a low mileage '07 vert is worth in pristine condition. Even if you could get it put back together for less, it still has a salvage title that greatly diminishes the cars value. Don't even give this car a second look, it's a parts car.

 

I don't think the top can close all the way as the mechanism is likely damaged in the back. And the only way to repair it is to literally cut off the back of the car, floor pan and all and weld on a replacement. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Heck, you could find yourself a nice used JCW cabriolet for less than what it would cost to buy that wreck and repair it. And even if it was repaired by someone who knew what they were doing, it would still likely have all kinds of trouble down the road.

Also, keep in mind that convertibles need all the stiffness they can get. A welded up/pieced together covertible is going to handle like crap.

 

I kinda feel like it's false advertising... the amount of work that would be needed! Besides, if you notice how squashed the boot and battery compartment is... that seems like something that would never get quite right! Oh well.... whatever. thanks for the opinions

$9,500!!!!! I sold my '05 with 71K on it for $6,000. And guess what? It was running and not wrecked. What is wrong with people!!!!?

 

I go to salvage auctions all the time. I can tell you that car probably didn't bring over 2 grand at auction. As for repairability, yes, but not by the average enthusiast. A rebuilder has frame machines and techs that can do the repairs at cost and then they can sell the car for a profit.

Personally, I'd never fix that vehicle. I'd buy it and find one hit in the front and use the white car as a parts car.
