Stolen gas lid cover!

I'm not sure where to post this but my friend was parked at a Costco store went in to shop came out and her chrome cover and gas lid were gone! All that is left is the black plastic it was stuck to, where does she start looking for a replacement? Its an 06 blue convertable but I guess the part can be painted to match? Skittles is her pride and joy and now its been violated
Thanks for any help you might have.

I can't help with replacing it but that's bull$*#@! My wife's S-10 was keyed at a WalMart for no reason; I know how it sucks to be violated like that. I hope it can be repaired quickly at a small cost so you can put it behind you.

Any parking lot video to help catch the thief?

Having the coolest car on the lot has some disadvantages!!

Are you sure it's a 2006 convertible? If so, I can't picture the chrome piece that she's missing.

First-gen convertibles just have a body-colored fuel door with a regular black plastic gas cap behind it. Or did she have some kind of aftermarket chrome cover on the the fuel door? Here's the stock setup:

Sounds like she had something like this. The gas lids are easily removed by rotating them. You can't do that easily to the stock door if it's locked because it's flush to the body panel. I wonder if the chrome cover made it easier to remove because it was no longer flush.

We were thinking thats why it was easier to take, I tried pulling on mine a bit and it wouldn't budge. But thats exactly what she had on hers, it looked great when she had it. All thats left is the plastic that was under the original piece.

The gas cover disappeared from my '05 a couple days after I bought the car in '08... found it alongside the road, about a mile from home. Apparently it had rotated off on its own. Luckily, the chili red color made it stand out on the roadside. I put a small dab of silicone seal on the back when I replaced it (it seemed a bit on the loose side), and it's been good ever since.

That was lucky! I guess she backtracked but never found it,still no luck finding a replacement so we painted the plastic part(not very good!) but it looks a bit better. Glad you found yours!

Fuel door pic. I am putting an R50 gas cap on my R53. This pick helped me realize the inside ring has to come off to exchange the two parts haha. Thanks again NAM members!
