CupOJoe,

I still need to see this car of yours. I have seen you drive by but never closer than that.

Okay Sidewalkers, enough joining! After 1100+ miles, I'm ready for some practical tips on:

1) Sidewalk leather (aka English Malt Brown Leather) How did you treat it? Especially in a convertible like mine, so it won't fade, crack, and dry?

2) Initial and ongoing maintenance (Did you check all fluid and pressure levels early and often? Will you do oil changes outside prescribed (read PAID FOR) intervals

3) What has been your "Sidewalk" conversation? No one has asked me about the name "Sidewalk" yet.

I realize that some of these issues have been covered in other threads, but we're Sidewalks,we've got to stick together!

1) Our MINI sales guy (Charlie at Motorwerks MINI) told us to use Lexol
(http://www.lexol.com/auto.html)

2) Will check today when I gas up and every 4-5 tanks. I am sticking with the recommended.

3) No one has commented on "Sidewalk," yet - just the car

Not a Sidewalk owner, just stopping by to drool

If you haven't found Griot's Garage yet follow this link ---> http://www.griotsgarage.com/ and prepare to waste countless hours and oodles of money on your MINI.

I think I've picked up $300 worth of stuff there in the last 6 months (they are local to me).

We just picked up some Zaino leather cleaner and treatment. We love their wax products, so we have high hopes, although Griot's products have worked well in the past.

2) Initial and ongoing maintenance (Did you check all fluid and pressure levels early and often? Will you do oil changes outside prescribed (read PAID FOR) intervals
I usually do oil changes every 5K on the '03 MCS. But because Dougal sits more than our daily-driver cars I'll change the oil by age rather than mileage - probably once a year. I usually change the oil myself rather than having it done for free. Too much bother to drive to the dealer vs. paying for oil & filter.

3) What has been your "Sidewalk" conversation? No one has asked me about the name "Sidewalk" yet.
If I have time, I'll explain that it was the name of a trim package from the original Mini. If I don't have time, I just say, "it's a British thing..." and they'll go, "ahh... gotcha."

1) Pic (if you have one) - I don't have a really good one yet.

2) What is your MINI’s name - Why name it? I doubt that it would come to me, if I called it.....

3) Your Location - Bartlett, TN (Memphis)

4) Color of your baby - BRG

5) Cooper or Cooper S - It's a Cooper S.

6) Age (by decade – 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, etc.) - 50s

7) Mensa Member (Y/N) - not. What does this have to do with owning a MINI, or joining this "special interest group"?

8) Theme Song - Mine? I haven't really thought about it.... Or as a theme song for this group? How about, "It's a Small World (After All)"?

9) Mods - Aftermarket wind screen, dark window tinting, m7 strut tower brace, Nuvi GPS with Kuda mount. More to come.....

Welcome Steven B! 014

2) (my MINI calls me by name every time I walk in the garage)

7) NBD (for fun)

8) You have a good sense of humor

Hi,

1) Pic - none at this time ...
2) Name - not thought about that
3) Irvine - CA
4) Color - Pepper White
5) Cooper S Convertible (black top) - Cold Weather Package, LSD, Fog Lamp, Armrest etc ...
6) Age - 50s
7) Mensa Member (N) - I am just a "mensh" ... (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/mensh)
8) "Put that top down" - Zig, Zag & Zug Electric Band
9) Mods - none, and how does that affect warranty?

My MCSC is on the Don Juan, steaming towards and close to the Panama Canal - with some helpful Bimmer members showing the way, you can see that there is major congestion at the canal - 72 to 96 hr delays, which may impact the Port Hueneme ETA of 4/23 for all the cars on the Don Juan. But I keep tracking ...
I pledged my 2000 Boxster S for a new Sidewalk, I found the handling even better and the cost half ... not to sneeze at ... However, in the mean time I blew the engine at 98,000 miles - secondary shaft gave in ... seems a weak point of all Porsches ... it has cured my Porsche desire for a while ... looking forward to "open motoring" with my new MCSC ...
Cheers,
Ron.

Nice Sidewalk, Mr. Cheese.

Here's a phone pic from this evening, the day after my first phase of hard car detailing: clay, Raggtop treatment, claybar, Epic, DP Wheel Armour, 303 on the interior, Scotchgaard on the carpet, everything done but the leather.

A little sloppy as the hours wore on, and I'll need to do a phase two. I just noticed some epic residue on the wheels that I'll have to work out, but at least I got out most of the brake dustys.

Well guys my first post at NAM. Been a member about a month and a half. First let me thank you. You'll see why. I was looking for a Mini Cabrio but the fastest delivery of any cabrio available was for a sidewalk, about a month. A non sidewalk MCSC was also available on the same 1 month wait. I was not that convinced of spending the extra dough for a package I was not aqcuainted with. I came upon NAM by chance and through reading over your posts I decided to take the white silver sidewalk offered by the dealer. Afterwards, reading almost every night about the sidewalk frenzy I was growing more and more impatient, counting the days to delivery.
Last friday I picked her up and let me tell you it was worth the wait. It is gorgeous. MCS, white silver. According to the dealer it is the first sidewalk delivered to Mexico. They just introduced the package here for the 2008 model. So I just wanted to thank you guys for making my decision easier and for making the past month seem like a year.

1- Pic (updated- those are pictures as she's is ready to leave the mother ship)
2- Have to decide on a name - not used to do that here
3- Monterrey, Mexico (still counts as North America, right?)
4- White Silver
5- Cooper S (only version available in Mexico)
6- 30s
7- Not sure what Mensa is, probably not a member
8- "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet"- Bachman Turner Overdrive
9- Still early, just installed the Dice Ipod interface

Best Regards
Xavier
