Trailer Hitch for 2007 cabrio

Has anyone tried this trailer hitch? Also, if it works on a standard 2002-2006, it should work on a 2007 cabrio, correct?

I assume you have a base Cooper -- not an "S" -- right?
I know it won't work on an S.

I am using the MINIDOMORE hitch. It is hidden when off and easy to install.

Ditto. I running the MiniDoMore hitch also - works great, well made, and invisible when not in use.

Love my minidomore hitch, only problem is that I have been too eager to take out the pin and burned myself a few times. I need to get a trailer so that I will be less reluctant to leave in the ball hitch then a cargo buddy.

Minidomore

Besides being cheap (the CORT/mossmini trailer hitch is about $150 cheaper), I was somewhat put off by the instructions for installation. How long (and how challenging was the installation?

The MINIdomore hitch fit perfectly for me.

I am installing a Cort hitch on my FJ right now, and it is a very poor fit, going to get some grinding stones so that I can get the holes to line up with the factory ones. Must be that Toyota drilled the frame wrong.

Took me maybe an hour the first time. Could do it in half that now. Really not hard. Everything on the MINI pretty much goes apart and together like Lego's.... I think it's a lot easier than the instructions might lead you to believe - the instructions are quite thorough - but for some that can be intimidating.

+1 -- only took that long the first time 'cause I was being overly **** and taking twice as long as needed on each step.

Can I ask what you guys are planning on towing and what weight the Mini is rated to tow with that hitch?

I most often use mine to mount a cargo platform... but will be towing a U-Haul sport trailer to MOTD this year.

Capacity of hitch is 200lb tongue weight, 1400lb towing capacity.

I bought a MiniDoMore hitch from the marketplace

and the only reason I did was there wasn't a sport link available used. Personally, I don't like it that much, but it's on now. The install is pretty easy. What sucks is getting the ball hitch thinggy in. Royal PITA. While the unit is hidden, if I had to buy new I'd do the sport link.

With the MiniDoMore, the pin is wayyy back there. Can't take the ball off or put it on without a big hassle, need a cold car. It's such a pain that I was thinking of selling it to do the sport link, but it's on the car and I don't plan on towing that offen, so on it will stay. If I see a Sport Link in the marketplace, maybe I'll change over....

Sorry for the dissenting opinion, but I don't think it's that good a design.

Matt

To add some comments

I did tow a U-haul sport trailer to AMVIV. Did great! no real issues to report, just the hassle of towing a trailer (the wife never really got the notion of towing meant going VERY SLOW over bumps and the like.) Also, watch the prop rods in the trailer. One of them likes to hook backwards, and it slid and the lid bonked my wife in the head. Once you have the trailer make sure everyone works the prop rods so that it can't happen that way...

We got the trailer for $20 a day, and then there was no limit to the amount of luggage or the like we could take. We took two kids and with the trailer could even take the large "trail rated" stroller no problem.

Matt - thanks for the feedback on the Sport trailer - good to hear!
Exactly our situation - family of four on the road for a week... except in a cabrio in my case.

I think the minidomore IS a good design... given the "requirements" it intends to meet (trailer hitch, invisible when not used, no bumper holes necessary, no expensive proprietary attachments). The necessary PITA that goes with meeting all those requirements is the pin location... for me, I'm willing to sacrifice ease of use for truly invisible install. But your priorities differ.
Which is why there are two viable solutions.

The level of PITA also depends on whether you have rear fog light or not (the receiver is more recessed in fog-light-equipted cars).
