R52 Why "Sidewalk?"
Why "Sidewalk?"
OK, I've had my PW MINI Cabrio Sidewalk for almost a year and still don't know why MINI called it the "Sidewalk" edition. I've even searched the web for the answer and probably haven't looked in the right place. Does anyone know????
It seems to be another Limited Edition MINI re-using the title of a Limited Edition Mini

Doesn't every other Sidewalk owner drive theirs on the sidewalk like me?
Uh-oh.

WHY???? Because it is a unique combination of packages and a Limited Edition. It had ALL we were looking for in an elegant package. Come join us in The Sidewalk Owners Club - Cabrio Talk (2005-2008) Section

We call our '75 Clubman wagon "Pearl" (since we painted her Lexus white pearl). When our '08 Clubman gets here, maybe we'll change it to "Junior"...

Xbass ... I still don't get it. If someone says to me "why do they call your car a Sidewalk Edition" ... and I say "Because it is a unique combination of packages and a Limited Edition" ... they'll just look at me strangely and walk away. The "sidewalk"must refer to something???
the original mini went through a period of time in the 70s and 80s where they did different sales techniques and different names to sell the same old car. (this is not dissing the new style minis as I have one myself) but they never had a large advertising budget to sell the old mini or advertise it so they just changed badges and some interior fabrics and put on some stickers and made the, sidewalk, red hot, jet black, among many others. So the original name really didn't stand for much, just an advertising campaign.

see special editions below.
See, lots of pretty names but most just a badge and interior color, maybe if you were lucky some weird paint and stickers.
