R50/53 Lowering the MINI
I haven't done it, one of the guys at the dealership has bought a Cooper S and has been looking at and talking to MINI Mania (Link to them). I found them on my own too and they seem to be the experts in this area.

Lowering the Mini?
Thats absurd...
Why don't you touch up the Mona Lisa?
If you want to personalize the car, why don't you add a cupholder to the door, or hang an air freshner from the rearview mirror.

While you're at it you can put neon tubing to the undercarriage. I don't understand messing with a good thing. Nothing against you Wessie, but I could never understand the amount of money put into a brand new vehicle to make it some sort of street rod out of "The Fast and the Furious". First I don't understand why, and second, I have no idea how a teenager has the dough to pay for such transformations such as huge rims, neon lighting, spoilers, crooked license plates, etc. Me no understand, and me don't like.
hey,
i really like the ride of my cooper s right now. any stiffer, and it would be too stiff and i don't think lowering springs are any less stiff. if anything, it would be more stiff. so until some tuner guarantees my ride comfort to be the same as the FACTORY cooper s, i don't think i'm going to lower my cooper s. besides, for the streets, i think the coopers are perfect. if i do some autocrossing, however, i would use coil overs rather than just springs--i like the adjustablilities. anyhow, motor on.....safely.....

Hey,
I am planing in doing some mods my self, I being aproaching a few mini experts such as MINIMANIA, Mini Madness, Helix Minisports, etc etc, and basically depending on your production date they have kits, early models are fine and easy but later cars... we might have to wait.
H&R is coming with a nice kit, i believe will lowe the car about 1.3 inches, and the aitings are preticlose to the factory numbers, but a lot more responsible....
Ok if I get some ideas i will posted here, but one of the pmods in suspension you will love is the rear roll bar... is supouse to improve a lot............
Other mods I'm doing.
Intake, ECU upgrade, Wires, Spark plugs, Brake fluid, Cross drilled rotors, is not to make the car look like a car from the fast and the furious, is just to beat those guys driving them... JAJAJAJA

Do you know if the H&R kit is a coilover?
KW and Spax both have coilovers out (see helix 13 and MINI Madness respectively)
H&R does have sport springs out for the MINI, but there are no shocks out yet so your only choice is to put them back on to the stock shocks.
Wessie, thanks for answering my question. I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Sorry I lumped you in with the tacky teenagers. I was just trying to make a point. When I was a teenager, I was fortunate enough to own a vette. I did some stupid things with it but I didn't pour the money into it that many of these guys are doing now. What they are doing now is costing in the thousands of dollars. That's a lot of lawns mowed and burgers flipped. How can you keep a girlfriend or three? What a man po to do? Gots to have priorities I guess.
As long as it doesn't screw with your warranty, go for the change if it improves your handling. Happy motoring.

I too live in Salt Lake City like you...
if you lower this car, it will pretty much be UNDRIVABLE in SLC. You will bottom out or nose out in every gutter in town.
I had the regular MINI Cooper for a month in town back in April. I had trouble with it often times in some places. I can't imagine what a headache it would have been if I would have lowered it!
Seriously, didn't you notice when you test drove the MINI that it almost scraped leaving the dealership lot?

If you are so inclined Moss mini has lowering gear. You can find them in the "links of interest". I've ordered from them a couple of times for other things and they have been very professional. I haven't looked at the lowering stuff too closely but they did have a pic of coil-overs for the link to that area. If you do lower your MINI dont forget to get the A-arm kit for the rear to keep the camber right on the rear wheels! post pics too!
Personalizing the MINI is one of the attracting features of this car. It seems to be inherent with MINIS. I remember once about 20 yrs ago when I was building my first Mini I was consumed with making it just right. A friend of mine said just make it the way you want, don't worry about what other people think. That's what owning a MINI is all about.
As far as lowering the MINI, it's cool. My MKI sits about 2 1/2 inches off the ground. I personally like the lowered look. My New MINI will probably be lowered too! But I will wait awhile. I'll like to see what developes in the aftermarket parts area. Keep a eye on the UK suppliers as most mods will start in the UK first. Plus with shipping the way it is now it is almost certain one can save money ordering from the UK. Most parts suppliers in the USA are getting their parts from the UK anyway.
