New England/CA smog testing and pulley upgrades

The New England states picked up the California standards a couple years back thus the title...

Anyone ever have any issue with the idle smog test or the dyno test with their MCS+'upgraded' supercharger pulley?

I'm guessing that at idle, it wouldn't matter as the supercharger bypass would render the supercharger moot but when they do the dyno test, they rev the car to 40mph I think... will the MINI still be clean?

thanks

I had mine tested not that long ago(2005?), and it was OBDII. Meaning that they didn't have to run the car, just plug into the OBD port to check if everything was functioning as designed.

They do rev to 40, but it's still a light load test..

I haven't heard of Minis failing with pulleys.....

Matt

ps, you posted this in the 07+, and they're turbos! No pulley!

It actually takes a fair amount of modification to have a car not pass the actual smog test, either on at idle or on the dyno. I've passed cars that had almost every bolt on mod done and a few that I had to invent and they still would pass. Barely, but they passed. What you have to watch out for more is the visual inspection portion. I actually had a shop fail me due to having colored silicone replacement hoses for the vacuum system. Of course they didn't say anything until they had completed the dyno portion even though they did the visual portion first. Then they offered to re-test after I changed the hoses. I just took it to another shop who didn't care about what color the hoses were and was more concerned with the actual polution.

Just thought about it and I don't know if the east coast states adopted the inspection portion or only the testing.

Anyone interested in a thread where people can post reviews of smog testing facilities, based on how strict or lax the shops are as it pertains to visual inspections?

I'm certainly not condoning going catless in CA, but like Greg S suggested, if it passes the emissions test, why be an a*se with the visual inspection? Getting flagged by the DMV can cause a lot of trouble down the road.
