R50/53 Jay Leno driving MINI on Today show
Actually, it's during the second hour of the show (here on the East Coast). Yet to happen, but they just previewed it...he has a EB/W S and is "stunt driving" in the plaza.
Seems to be some sort of Italian Job promo.

Amongst the cars in his hanger and at home, I wonder if he owns a MINI, new or classic one. If not, that should be enough of a pull to go out and get one.
Cheers,

He said that he did not own one.
And did you hear how many MINI's they crashed during filming? Over 30
And here I sit still waiting for mine.

My dad actually knows Jay - they went to highschool together... I'll have him ask if he has any MINIs the next time they talk. He may say on tv he doesn't have one... but that doesn't mean he's not considering it.

Might want to keep an eye on the Tonight show to see if they replay it.
My mom told me about the segment. It sounded cool.
It does raise an interesting question. Many famous people owned Minis on their first go around. How many famous people own the current generation?
Ed Norton reportedly sent his free one for the movie back because he was contracturally obliged into making the film and didn't want any parts of it. I assume others of the starring cast received Minis but who knows if they kept them or gave them as gifts.
So far I know the US Senator from Colorado Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell has one and ex-Steeler Rod Woodson has one.

Jay & the MCS
MINI provided two MCS cars: CR & EB
Jay took Roper for a great ride...you could almost smell the burning rubber thru the tv as Jay did some pretty good 180's. Jay stated that Al lost ten pounds in the process and Al agreed and said it was all still on the front seat.
Nothing like the smell of MINI rubber burning in the morning.
Your questions: Jay was asked and he said he did not have a MINI in his stables.
Stars of the show said they did most of the driving vs stunt drivers. Cars "crashed" and not necessarily totalled.

James Garner got a new Mini not long ago. Nice change from his Rockford Files-era Camero.
The dealer said he could really drive it as he did his own driving in the F1s in the film Grand Prix.

I believe Garner drove Firebirds on the Rockford Files...but an easy enough mistake to make as they were basically the same car LOL !

For famous people that own minis-
Steely Dan owns a black MCS over on Maui #300 sold in Hawaii in Feb 2003
I drove that car a week before he bought it. The dealer was selling it with chrome wheels.
All back MCS with premium, sport and leather packages AND fully chromed (aftermarket $2500 markup) S-lites. Which I think he had replaced.

>>They didn't say exactly, but the stunt guy was chuckling about it. Apparently a lot of the crashes were attributed to the actors. He said Charlize Theron took care of 14 of them.
Seriously, look at the previews folks...you don't think that cars can do things like that without being sacrificed do you?
This sort of thing happens as a matter of course in moviemaking and has nothing to do with the driving skills (or lack thereof) of the actors.
I heard that dozens of cars were totaled for the new Matrix film.

>>You sure about that??!! I always thought that the "Blues Brothers" had quite a few cars crashed in it.
Maybe for numbers but for quality, I'll go with the original Italian Job. Opening scene they crash a Miura, they wreck a few Minis in training (sounds like the new movie), all 3 in the end get pushed over the side of the road, and they crush a DB5 convertible and I think two early series E-types!
