R50/53 Mounting Front License Plate
Mounting Front License Plate
I’m looking for instructions on mounting my new plate to my 06' Cooper. I've looked around the forum, however I was unable to locate instructions.
My kit has the following; four short screws; I believe these are for mounting the plate to the mounting bracket. Four longer screws (driving screws); I believe these are for attaching the mounting bracket to the bumper. Four little white bumpers, not sure what these are for...

Thanks-

I too recently acquired an '06 MC and not wanting to drive to the dealer to just have my bracket mounted, I called the service dep't. and was provided with following:
Drill 2 SMALL pilot holes thru the plastic mounting bracket & into the bumper. Use 2 of the long screws to mount the bracket to the bumper.
The 4 short screws attach the plate to the bracket.
As for the little white bumpers, I have no idea. My bracket kit didn't come with them.
Hope this helps.

I installed my GoMiniGo plate holder about two weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Today I installed a chrome frame because the disembodied license plate looked odd floating in the air in front of the car.

The decision to cite for no front plate really is a discretion call. The only place where I have been cited for no front plate in California has been in San Francisco. Probably because they have a huge reliance on the photo ticket as a revenue generator. Other than S.F., like WannaMini_, I have not gotten a missing front license plate ticket since 2003 (when I got my C5). With the GoMiniGo license plate towhook solution, there is no reason to deface your MINI by drilling holes.
There is a different mounting approach on your GP than the other cars. Check the earlier photos - the license plate mount that you have on your GP is missing on the other cars.
What a coincidence, I just finished mounting my German plate on the front today. Only 2 non-visible holes drilled.

Better yet, they are now using stainless steel (instead of aluminum). The benefit of stainless steel is no galvanic corrosion. It would be a rather nasty circumstance if you actually needed to use the tow point and couldn't install the tow hook.... Stainless steel avoids that little inconvenience.
I also agree.... Don't drill holes!!!
My alternative to the problem is 'industrial' grade velcro available form Home Despot... simply stick the backer plate to the bumper, and it won't come off unless you give it a good pull. I take the plate off when I wash the car, and put it right back on, no issues.
I also did my new BMW the same way

It depends on your philosphical persuasion. GoMiniGo is a sales agent for the original developer. Moss Mini appears to have their own take on the concept. If you want to support the original developer, it would seem that you should go to GoMiniGo.
