oily residue

2004 MCS, 54K. What explains the oily sooty residue on the supercharger housing, towards the pulley end? Is this something that an oil catch can would reduce? Or is something leaking?

a picture is worth a thousand words...

Seriously though, I've never heard of oily residue on the s/c housing. Anyone can probably mention a couple of possibilities, but if you want this thread to be an exercise in effective troubleshooting, try to snap a picture and include it in the thread.

It should not be anything that an oil catch can would reduce from what I am reading.

Good luck!

Hmmmm, by chance is there an oily build-up on the motor mount right next to the pulley??? When the motor mount breaks fluid leaks out. In my case it leaked on the inside of the engine compartment; I guess I could see it leaking/spraying on the supercharger...

No, it is not the motor mount.
