R50/53 DSC Warning Light Issue
DSC Warning Light Issue
On two occassions, the DSC light did not go out after a couple of seconds when I first started my '04 MCS in the morning. I moved the toggle both up and down, with no change. I shut the car off and then restarted (rebooted?), this time the light went out. The two occurances were spaced several day apart. Any ideas?
I had a similar thing happen on my '03 MC. The DSC light and the low tire light both came on. Toggling the switch and leveling the tire pressure didn't help, but the next time I started up, the lights were off. As it turned out, the problem in my case was due to a very loose bolt in one of the lower motor mounts. After that was fixed, the problem was resolved.

This happened to my BMW 530i--dealer reset the DSC (doing whatever it is that they do), and it stayed off. Had it remained on the DSC would have had to be replaced or repaired (mucho bucks), according to my mechanic. Also, when the DSC light is on, it's not working. If it's flashing while you're driving, it's doing its thing to protect you.
All this is a translation of what my mechanic and dealer told me. Don't know if it's all true.

Interesting this thread was brought back to life. Once, about a month ago, I started my MC, and the light was on. (No other lights, tho.) Toggling the switch did nothing. However, as soon as I started moving, the light went out. No idea why..

Just today, after my morning stop for pop, the DSC and Tire Pressure lights both stayed on.
Observations:
Most of the gas in the car at this time is only 89 octane (I switch on and off occasionally)
The car did not start on the first turn of the key.
The lights both stayed on until (about 500 yards) I turned onto my road at work. At that time I pushed in the clutch and shut the car down.
Waited about 5 seconds (coasting) and restarted the car.
Let the clutch out while in 3rd and went on my merry way with no lights.
Will be keeping an eye on this as the car goes in for oil (45,000 miles) on Monday. Can the dealership pull the code to see why it faulted (is there a memory)?

Warning Lamps
Yesterday morning my DSC light came on along with my ABS and Tire inflation lights when I started my '02 MCS. The previous night, none of them were on, and after inspection of the tires I found that the 2 passenger side tires were each a pound low. I corrected the tire pressure, but all the lamps stayed lit. I have no manual, unfortunately, as I bought the car used. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Anyone else experience this before?
