R50/53 Tire Pressure Light
Tire Pressure Light
Ok, so I was driving this morning, and the light came on.. I never heard a "Bing" (maybe the radio was on too loud). I went to the tire center, they said the tire pressure was just under the recommended pressure, they fixed that. Now I can't get the monitor light to go off. I've pushed it in for 5 seconds, waited, nothing. Still there. I've tried it several times. What else should I try to make it go off?
Do I have a faulty monitor?

I believe all your tires have to be at close to the same pressure. My light has gone on when just one tire was 2.5 lbs less than the others, so I'd say make sure all your pressures are very close then I held the button down for...say 20 seconds while driving. The next time I drove the light was out. Hope this helps.
after setting your tire pressure, turn the ignition to position 2, hold the button down until the light turns on. then drive for a few miles, the light should shut off. if not, the next time you drive your mini it will be off.
Chris is right! - It doesn't actually looka t tire pressure, rather it compares the rotational speed of each wheel and figures that if a tire is underinflated, it will be marginally smaller and rotate a little faster.
one of the times i got a flat i had to drive it for about one hour (i was on the highway) and it still did not go out. it did go out the next time i drove it. how far have you tried to drive it? and are you sure you did the reset procedure correctly?
I haven't driven very far.. only about a couple miles. I called my MA, and he told me the procedure. Followed it to a "T" Hopefully it'll just got out after some more miles

I've seen many different ways people have said to reset the flat tire monitor light. The following way is the way I reset mine and tell other people how to reset thiers. With the key in posistion two (I always have car running), push and hold the reset button down for 10 seconds. Let go of the button, turn off the car and wait ten seconds. Start the car and the light will reset unless the reset button is faulty or stuck. I've seen this happen quite often due to liquids getting into the button. Hope this helps!!
My method: If all of the tires are inflated to the same pressure and the light is already out, drive away holding the button in for five seconds then release when the light turns on... The light will go out after a few seconds. The system is reset. :-)
I'd use my tire gauge to make sure the guys at the tire center put them all at the right pressure before I tried anything else.
if you mean the little triangle with the "!" in it, and you can't shut that off by hitting the dsc switch, then the system is telling you that you have a problem with the DSC. is the ABS light on also?
I wish it was possible...
I wish it was possible to retrofit the MINI with the same type tire monitoring I have on my Corvette. The Corvette actually measures the pressures in each tire and you can pull that up on a display. With that system, if you get a "low pressure" warning, it actually tells you which tire is low and by how many pounds.
The MINI system just scares the crap out of you (usually the minute you've gotten on the interstate haha) because it has the idiot light that says "HEY, I HAVE A FLAT" when in fact that's likely not to be the case. Now I'm not trying to start a debate over the price of a MINI versus a Corvette or something. I'd be willing to part with a few hundred green backs to make the upgrade possible if it were possible.
Probably the BEST solution to the problem is to take 5 minutes and check your tire pressures every week (say on Saturday or something).

Ok, so NEMO got serviced yesterday.. it was the steering angle sensor, as well as fault codes for the door pressure sensors!!
So my girlfriend drove it home (cause I just don't have 7 hours to take it down there and get it fixed during the week) and all was fine. I get in the car last night to run an errand.. adjust the steering wheel down (they had it all the way up.. who drives like that???
) and within 2 miles BOTH the DSC and Tire monitor light came on AGAIN!
So this made me think... I think I adjusted my steering wheel about a day before the lights came on... could this have done it? And why is this happening?? I'm supposed to be able to have the steering wheel were I want it....
Grrr.. now I have to take it down to MINI again

Sounds like a plug may not be all-the-way connected under the wheel. If you're a contortionist, maybe take a look and see that the connectors are all connected, might save you a trip. Still call the dealership and tell them about it (you might have already done that last bit...). Good luck!
