Slow starting

I've been driving my 2003 MINI for about a month now, and I've noticed something that doesn't seem exactly right. I don't know if it's a problem, or me just not being used to that style of car.

When I move off from a stop, the car feels pretty "lurchy" - I give it gas, and it doesn't go for a second, then lurches forward. It then pauses and lurches a couple more times as it gets up to speed, at which point it's fine.

It's worse when the car is just starting from being cold, but also at stoplights or traffic.

Any thoughts? The car's still under warranty, but the dealer is a couple hours away, so I don't want to drive out for nothing.

I neglected to mention that I'd had the car in a few weeks ago for unrelated service and they reprogrammed _something_ in order to fix the problem, but no dice.

This sounds like ECU as Ken mentioned or ignition system.

No CEL on? What happens once you are moving along at higher rpms?

No CEL on - all the lights are fine.

At higher RPMS, it seems pretty smooth, at least to me. The only problem I've noticed is the lurching at low speed.

MC, AT (CVT).

And not going slow would be great, though I don't think the people in front of me in traffic would appreciate the new MINI in their back seat.

Then again, maybe they would!
