R50/53 VIDEO!!!! (My first Autocross in the Mini)
#1
Ok, I've not autocrossed in quite a while so please keep the criticism constructive.
This is run #5 of 6 I had last Saturday the 26th. I only have runs 4, 5, 6 due to technical difficulties. (grrr)
I absolutely need better rubber and wheels. My best was a 44.003 and the best time of the day was a 41.386 by a Subaru WRX that was in the Unlimited Modified class. (New wheels, tires, ECU, Intercooler, Suspension, the works.)
I have no doubt that with more experience and better feet I can capture the hill.
He was... "interested" that a Mini Cooper S with stock wheels/tires was running solid 44's.
I'm on your 6, rex.
And now, the video. Please right-click and do a "Save As" so you have it should you want to watch it over.

It was SO much fun! Met lots of great people too.
I have to get rid of those run-flats. They absolutely howled all the way around the curves. After talking to some people I was also a couple of pounds low on my pressures so maybe that would have helped a bit.
I didn't have any means to change the pressure on site but I'm getting a small pump.

Wahoo!! Go get'm.
You looked good, but I saw where you could have shaved a few seconds off the time. With a little more practice you will beat the pants off that WRX. Hope you're check out reading material on autocrossing. My favorite is "Winning Autocross SOlo II Competition, the art and the science" by Richard (****) Turner and JB Miles
Keep the pucker factor high!
Good luck! And, I hope this inspires more people to get out and "enjoy" their Cooper.

>>Looks good! Nice work by your cameraman, too. What kind of exhaust do you have in there? Sounds great!
Heh, that's the factory exhaust!
However. To answer more truthfully and to CooperSpeed
I've done: Madness Intake and Madness Swaybar. Helix 15% pulley reduction. Airbox cutout mod.

That's a neat site they have there! is that a kart track or something? Getting tires will definitely help a lot. I did 2 events on the all season runflats and did not so well, then I got some kumho v700's on 16" wheels, and placed 4th out of 14, and 1st out of 8. Definitely well worth the investment if you plan on running a lot of events. It will also keep you from going through a set of street tires every year.
