Question for BMW E46 drivers!

The other day my dad asked how to get the rear lights on his '04 BMW 330Ci that are in the trunk lid to be functional, I assume those are rear fog light lens? what does it take to make them functional?

Do you mean the red ones? The rear fogs are a euro option. Try looking/asking at www.e46fanatics.com to see if there is a retrofit.

I bet MCS-WA is right. There IS a retrofit for the newer E90 and E92, you can see it in the DIY section of www.e90post.com

In looking into it on some BMW forums it does not look like it is as easy as the MINI's fog so I think he is just going to settle with the awsome tail lights it has.

instead of using the rear fog, you should be able to place another bulb in there and tap into the brake light circuitry making the unused part essentially another brake light. a lot of us ti folks do that. another set of brake lights never hurts.

its a significant modification. to do it like factory, you'll need a LCM with the dual lamp switches (one for front + rear), bumb harness for the trunk lamp, and wiring from the lcm back to the trunk if your car is north american.

The only choices you have are which side of the car you want to rear fog to be, but here in the states, it doesnt serve much more than to annoy the drivers behind you. Others have wired dual rear fogs with the brake lamps but that's up to you.

this isnt a $5, 15 min mod for certain. good luck
