Once again, guidelines like Kbb, NADA and all the other places mean absolutely nothing in the real world. They are merely guidelines.

What matters the latest weeks auction of wholesale prices in your local area.

If you really want to know what your car is worth, go someplace like CARMAX and they will appraise your car free. You may get a dose of reality (or not). YMMV

KBB almost always returns the highest value. Edmunds or Mannheim are usually more accurate.
Dealer trick: use Mannheim to appraise your trade, against KBB value for their used car.

Resale Value

On a side note, I recently received property tax notification on my '03 MCS. They had it valued at $18,500.00. In my area (Louisville, Ky.) the PVA shoots for 100% valuation.

Try trading it in & watch your dealer backpeddle on that statement
KBB is a nothing more than an overinflated guideline, according to KBB my 2 year old Mini is worth only $800 less than I paid for it. Sorry but that is a joke. KBB estimates private party sale value on my Mini to be $3400 higher than Edmunds does so I would say Edmunds is more realistic but I even think the Edmunds value is inflated.

Then you have the Greatest dealer ever and he or she will never make a penny. Good luck getting KBB the dealers can't even sell them for that right now so why would they give you KBB on a car. KBB on my car is 28,000 and i paid 22,000 from the dealer 2 months ago. Just my .02 cents

Let me bring some reality into this ...

A couple of months ago I sold my car. I had TWO independent appraisers take an HOUR to apprise the car each time. They both came back with the EXACT same number (and, of course, not what I wanted ... but what I "expected" because I know the guidelines from a long history of car buying are useless).

I specifically asked HOW they came up with the numbers and both said the same things. The ONLY thing that matters is the current wholesale auction prices in the area. Where and how fast can they dump your used car.

In my case, it was a bit more difficult on them because it was a FULL JCW car (all the bits), but little aftermarket ... but .. a MC40. They had NO CLUE nor cared what that meant. It was meaningless and only made it harder to sell wholesale because the real market dont care about MINI marketing.

Sorry ... just trying to bring a little bit of reality into the discussion.

You might be pleased to know that recently I traded my 05mcs on a 06 GP - they gave me $22K for my car (had no packages or options other than a sunroof and HK) That was what I paid for it a year before used from a fellow NAM member - considering that I was buying a sought after car I assumed I'd g low balled , but I didn't ... just depends maybe I was just catching them at the right time (their inventory was low - since the 07's were 4 months away) and it was the end of the month... you never know till you take it in and find out...

Good luck!
