Unusual Problem - Front License Plate

I am now the proud owner of 5 (count'em) 5 EU style Front License Plates. One From Germany, One From GB, One from Lithuania, one from Poland and one from France.

When I received the first one, I asked, here at NAM, what to do with it- how to mount it, etc. The answers I got (3M tape,) all made sense, for ONE plate. Now that I have 5 and have to rotate them periodically, unless there is a real 007 style plate rotator, I need a better solution. I need a plate mount that I can use over and over again. I think the ideal solution would be the rectangular equiv. to the badge mounts I have seen, but:

These are not metallic, thus not magnetic.

These are not badges

I have to be able to rotate these from time to time just for the sake of the people who cared enough to brave the govt. red tape they braved to get them for me. (The Polish tag is totally illegal. It came off a car that was driven by the victim of a Mafya hit) These are all people who cared enough about my decision to buy a MINI to go the extra step.

One idea that I had was to back the plates with magnetic vinyl. But I think the wind load would be too strong. I could use Velcro, if there is some sort of universal EU backing plate.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Try your question on mini2.com. I'm sure lots of folks there have experience with Euro plates. Not so much here in the U.S.

Have you tried a European plate frame? They open to allow the pate to be removed. Mine came from here but there are many other places to get them.

I orded mine from here:http://www.licenseplates.tv/cat/euro...e19768f1cce926

The plates were metal (don't think they're magnetic) basically leave the mount on the car usea screw driver pop out the plastic tabs reamove plate and put in a new one press tabs closed. I've been debating acquireing a few more plates as a result of having this convienance at hand.

I got my EP Frame from Europlates.com I like the one that Mishka posted, but it doesn't seem as secure as the Europlates one.

You could also contact a MINI dealership overseas. I'm not sure about the aftermarket ones that everyone else is posting about, but the one that came on my MINI does not require and holes.

I just used the holes that were already there from the OEM US plate.

Most EU plate holders bolt on (bolts / screws) are behind the plate so not visible. They allow plates to be clipped in and out in a couple of minutes. There are also a variety of frame surround finishes available.

Mine (from my dealer) lets the plate slide in and out, sans screws and bolts. Rubber edging holds it in. Very common solution, at least in my next of the woods.

Used to be common in UK too, until the lOndon congestion charge, then lots of plates were stolen to avoid paying this when driving into London.

It's more secure than it looks. It takes quite a bit of effort to get it pried open, and both the top and bottom edges have to be opened in order to remove the plate.

Either way, a EP Frame is the way to go.
