I've been told that my Mini's color...Liquid Yellow was discontinued. What other colors have been axed and what colors are they replacing them with? Curious and wanting to know.

Silk Green and Velvet Red are two other colors that come to mind quickly. I think Electric Blue might have been discontinued from 05' to 06' also, but I'm not sure?

A ton have been discontinued from 06 to 07. Chili Red, Astro Black, Pepper White, British Racing Green, and Pure Silver are all that remain. All the others like Royal Grey, Dark Silver, Space Blue...are all gone.

In addition to the ones already listed, there's also Solid Gold, Black-Eyed Purple and Jet Black (and certainly others). Actually, I'm not sure Black-Eyed Purple was an option for US cars - maybe it wasn't, or maybe it had a different name over here.

As for the colours discontinued from '06 to '07, has anyone confirmed the available colours for '07 convertibles, since they're still the current body style? The MINIUSA configurator seems to have all of the '06 colours available on the '07, as well as Lightning Blue, which I don't think was an option for '06

NOT Pepper White!!! NNOOOOO! I wanted to make that my color when I traded in my LY. Darn!!! What colors do we have left to choose from then?? It sounds like Mini is getting rid of some beautiful colors for no reason.

Let me take a stab at this:

Silk Green
Velvet Red
Solid Gold
Indi Blue
Liquid Yellow
Electric Blue
Purple Haze / Black-Eyed Purple
Jet Black / Solid Black
Solar Red
Royal Grey
Space Blue
Hyper Blue

MLWagner79 - Dark Silver is still available, but it's an "S only" color.

I'm sure I forgot one somewhere...

I'm trying to think of the new ones off the top of my head:

Mellow Yellow
Lightning Blue
Laser Blue (I kinda like this one, actually)
Sparkling Silver (a more beigey silver)
Nightfire Red

Hmm... looks like I got them all! Thunder Blue doesn't count (only available on a GP) Cosmos Black was not available in the USA, I think.

Solid Black = Jet Black, so I'll edit my post to add that alternative name.

Also, the silver roof was discontinued after '06.

I have an 2oo6 MC that is Hyper Blue with the silver roof. My understanding was that the silver roof was new for 2006. And now it is to be discontinued already??

Question: Has the resale value of a Mini ever gone up simply because a particular paint scheme was no longer available?

Not sure how rare mine is, but since Hyper Blue probably was at best the third best selling color the two years it was available perhaps now it becomes more desirable, especially with a silver roof.

What does everyone else think??

Doubt the silver roof will; but SR, VR and SG will help the KBB float a little longer.

I don't think that any particular colours will be worth more, market-wide, but on an individual scale, I can see someone paying a little more to get a used MINI in a particular colour. Of course, that would really only come into play on eBay or similar settings where the asking price isn't fixed by the seller. A bidder might go a few hundred dollars higher if they just "had" to get one in Purple/Yellow/etcetera.

I don't think MINI has ever had any "bad" colours, but I wish they weren't so conservative with the choices. They're fun cars, so I'd like to see some brighter "fun" colours as options. I'm thinking back to the late 60's/early 70's Mopars, with colours like "Limelight", "In-Violet", "Vitamin C", "Sassy-Grass Green" - things like that.

It could be worse, the colors available could be like those for the Chevy Malibu. Have you ever looked at a parking lot from 20 or 30 floors up? It's amazing how much conformity there is, nearly everything is dark red, silver, white, black, or metalic blue. I know the orange Minis were never very popular, but a real super intense orange would be a nice color addition.

...but Cosmos Black was available in Canada. Rather stunning color actually. I liked it.

Then AUURRGGHHH! Yesterday, I saw a Chevy Cobalt with a dark purple color very similar to Black Eye purple/Purple-Haze.

The silver roof was always intended to be only for 2006 models. It is a "special" option reserved for 2006 hardtops because that represents the last year of that model.

What will be interesting is to see if they do some other "special" thing for 2008 convertibles, before the new generation comes out!

Hard to say about color and resale value though. I had a Dakar Yellow (very much like liquid yellow) BMW Z3 and I was actually dinged on all trade-in/resale value set ups for the color. The "colorful" cars are usually left to chance that someone with equally great taste in car colors comes along and wants to buy your old car. I held out and finally found someone who got hooked on the cool yellow of the car rather than wanting one of the standard colors.

Interesting, I didn't know that!

I'm very happy with my silver roof and matching mirror caps.

Me too, very happy with the look of mine, --I was thinking white (instead of black) until the salesman said there was a silver available. Of course chrome would have been cooler still, but for the many thousands of extra dollars required for chrome, the silver was a nice alternative.
