My Mini was produced on 6/18 and the people at the dealer are not sure if the car was pre-wired for the alarm or not. Does anybody have any ideas when did the pre-wiring production start? And if it is pre-wired, what brand of an alarm will it be compatible with?

Thanks for all your help.

Karol,
According to all the info. I've heard, the pre-wiring doesn't start until the 2003 models are produced.
If you wanted the alarm system you would have had to spec it as an option and it would have been wired and installed at the factory.
On the '03s the wiring will be done at the factory and the alarm installation at the dealership.

MINIsota and Karol, that's not entirely true. There's a date sometime this summer that all the cars produced after that day are pre-wired. It's not limited to 03 models. My car is pre-wired and just finished production last week (one of the last 02 models...errr). Call MINI USA or ask your dealer to find out! What a concept for them, I know!!!

A nice feature.... (prewired alarm) but... if your not one of the vin#'s included, you could always go aftermarket. Most of the time you can get a better setup for less money.
I do however like the idea of having it pre-wired..... only prob. is that it's just one more thing I have to decide on for my MINI! errr!

Please Note: Moving to "Beneath the Bonnet"

The dealership parts desk told me that the cars coming in June 2002 will be prewired for the alarm. Although they don't have one yet. Mine came in May 24th but was actually supposed to arrive in June/July. It is prewired.
Oh, look at the dash, if you see a LED light on the dash (top middle) than you are prewired.

The LED for the factory alarm is on the directional signal stalk (at least the only picture I saw with the factory alarm installed showed it there). I'm going to my dealer here in Germany to find out if I can have the alarm retrofitted in my August build MCS today. I will let you know if it is pre-wired.
