Worth a look, but WITHOUT THE @%&*! COMMENTARY. Yikes - You don't want to think of the realization that "our children are our future" after seeing/HEARING this.

I wonder if he had a "flower-vase" stuck to his dash.

Funny clip – but what’s the point about DSC? A person trying to impress his friends and looses it.

And people wonder why teenage boys insurance is so high....

This has nothing to do with DSC or a MINI... just bad judgement by bad teens. LEARN TO DRIVE PEOPLE!!!!!! This is the BIGGEST performance mod you can make. (Just do a search for "loose nut behind the wheel" to see it discussed elsewhere)

This stuff happens all the time and it's almost always younger drivers with no experience trying to show off. As a side note I don't think the DSC really would have helped. It looks to me like the mr2 swerved to avoid running the light and/or hitting the car in front of him and ended up off the road. OR he was trying to do a 180 in which case the DSC would have caused the accident because it wouldn't let the wheels slip that much. Overall I am against a computer telling me what I want to do which is why I don't like automatics or DSC. If you don't know how to drive, the DSC is a good thing, if you do know how to drive it's a pain!

Loses it? DSC? Learn to drive? Uh... that was deliberate guys. No loss of control there -- he just turned left and then drove and drove until he got over to the parking lot.

Seems like a one footed driver mistake- he simply needed to get to the brake pedal. Didn't look like he even tried. The advanced technique of driving by throttle implies that you stay on the road to use the technique

Brake pedal? He was on the brakes (albeit gently). He was only going 10 or 15 mph and drove a very long distance without any attempt to turn. After the initial left turn, he had total control and full traction for a very, very long time. He could have turned a little, slowed down some, downshifted, opened the door and stuck his foot out, called his mom for advice, whatever. Instead he decided to just drive, and drive, and drive until he finally got all the way across the road. Then he decided to just keep driving that direction until he got completely across the big grass field. Then he decided to just keep driving until he got into the parking lot. Then he aimed for his ex's Jetta, bumped it, stopped the car, got out, and walked away.

Just an angry kid on Ridilin withdrawl. That's all.

Here in an example where DSC would have helped, although it's probably best that this kid not be driving anyway. Why are kids so damn dumb anymore?

Btw, anyone count how many times the camera guy said "Bro"? Ahhh, 16yr old vocabulary. That takes me back.
Cheers,

Oops, yer right, vespa- he WAS riding the brakes. I viewed it once and didn't pay enough attention. Looking at it again, it seems even crazier, like he did it on purpose. If I was his insurance agent and saw that video, I'd see to it that he couldn't get insurance for at least the next 10 years

It you start to oversteer and you hit the brakes it will just make it worse, more so in a mid engine car.

That is what happened in this video.....

Interesting clip.
Obviously set up because the driver starts from a dead stop. But what he was trying to do escapes me....I thought maybe a 180 spin also. I agree that there was enough time that the driver could have avoided the final outcome. Maybe trying to get a tape to submit to Funniest Home Videos?

We used to do what we called an "Elliot Ness" by cramming the wheel to the left and pulling the parking brake at the same time thereby giving you a nice 180 ( ala Blues Brothers parking technique)...of course this was back in the 70's with a Pinto.
(short wheelbase recommended).

In northern Minnesota the first snowfall of the year was a gathering time for all the daring, dumb drivers ( me included) where we would congregate in town after dark ( population less than 500) and throw $hithooks up and down main street until the local constable shagged us out of town ( **** had a different meaning back then).

But this driving clip seems absurdly stupid....at least we had a clear idea of where our cars should be pointed once we attempted something. It took too long to own a car, must less destroy it, that you were going to pull off a driving trick that wasn't going to work out. Yup, yup ( snapping my suspenders) we were perfect drivers back then ( just glad I made it through that period and lived to talk about it).

This was posted before on numerous other car forums and the general concesus was that the kid driving the MR2 didn't know how to drive them. If you listen, one of his friends says "Another MR2 down the drain." or something like that. Apparently, I don't know this first hand, but the MR2 has some wicked characteristics which make it a ***** to drive. One, when you let off the gas the car tends to get very light in the rear end and even has problems with the rear tires doing funky stuff when under high boost.

The kid simply was being a kid and was showing off, he started to lose control, hit the brakes, and the car wouldn't stop.

That was a pretty vague post, but everyone was a kid at one time and everyone did their share of stupid stuff. Hopefully that kid learned a lesson, and won't do it again.

I like running with mine on though I usually turn it off when I'm taking off into traffic and such. It hinders straight line performance, but I like having it on in the twisties, kinda fun to not have to touch the brakes when you fly around a corner. I'll turn it off if I wanna pull a 4 wheel drift.... them's fuuuun, ehe. But I just keep it on for pure safety reasons. If you're driving so hard that you're working it out too much, then you need to re-evaluate your driving strategies. And that's coming from a kid who drives hard a lot.

I can attest to both the kid part and the driving hard part, too!

watch many times, i think the kid was try to show off a 180, but he got confused and did the rest with his reasonable "teen" sense humor.

The only time I turn DSC off is if I'm driving in "fun" mode. But even then I never get too carried away.

KEEP THAT STUFF ON A TRACK. DON'T DO IT ON THE STREET.

IMHO, DSC is like oxygen; you never miss it until you really need it and don't have it.
