Trade in value would be even lower. I'm using the private party sale value. All info assumes that the car is in good condition.

I don't think that it's a bad price at all. I'd try to get another $650 off. And remember, the '03 usually starts showing it's tempermental character at around th 50k mark. Expect to be paying for some little things here and there.
Aside from that, it sounds like a great car. The nav system is something I've been wanting.

piff 2121, don't ask and then defend or rationalize! Ask with an open mind!

Seems worth it to me, but i'd have to see and drive it. Does it have that dirty car spooge near the hatch, hood gaskets and in hard-to-clean areas? Does it appear to have been well maintained? Maintenance history? Condition of wear items other than tires (brakes, belts, etc.)? Curb rash on wheels? Drive sraight and true?

That dark grey is a favorite color of mine, looks kind of sinister with the black roof.

Good luck whichever way you go, and your message is a dead giveaway which way you WANT to go...

From what I've seen here on NAM, the '03 is a little tempermental. Take a look around the Beneath the Bonnet section for '03 specific problems. Keep in mind that there are plenty of '03s on the road today that have never had any trouble.

Frankly I'd put that money down on an '05 or '06 at a MINI dealer. You know the record is good and it will only have been "abused" by you and no one else. My .02 dollars.

Mine has 60K and the only problem I had was the power window regulator in the passenger door which was replaced under warranty at about 34K miles. My Wanda isn't tempermental...she's fantastic!

Black spooge is a build-up of roadgrime in certain spots, denoting someone who's not been detailing their MINI too well.

An extended warranty could be very well worth the money
