Check around. Ask a local body shop that others in your area have used and check with a dent-wizard people.

It shouldn't matter.

It shouldn't be. It doesn't have anything to do with the mechanics of the car and if I'm not mistaken I believe there is a law that says that a manufacturer can't void a warranty if the car is worked on by another mechanic.

If this happened while your car was parked, it is a non-moving incident. My insurance did not raise my rate when this happened to me (but I was able to identify the car that did it in the parking lot due to paint transfer, so that person's insurance ended up paying for it).

Don't you wish your Mini COULD transform into a big robot when some moron attempts to do damage to it? Come out in the morning to a satisfied looking Mini, and some jerk hanging by his ankles from a utility pole.

That happened to me back in 2003. I just got my Brand New SIX MONTH WAIT (sorry for yelling) PS/B MCS. I parked it in DC over by the MCI Center (now Verizon center) in a parallel meter spot to get lunch. There was an open spot behind me and and a lady in a Lt brown Lexus GS300 tried to parallel park behind me. Seeing that she probably wasn't the best parallel parker I directed and helped her into the spot. When I thought she had it, I walked away thinking everything was OK. I was wrong, I get back to my car after lunch and what do I see? Half of her Lexus in my meter spot with her F'in hexegon plate bolts tatooed to Spark's @ss, Not once but Twice, Count that 1, 2, 3, 4 hex mark through the paint!!!!! Someone needs to tatoo that...............Grrrrrrgrrrrrr... I won't say it.

Oh, and at that time there was a 9 month wait on touch-up paint because MINI had to change the ingredients.

Yeah I'm still a little pissed. But the next year in 2004 I picked up a set of bumpers and sideskirts for 200 bucks. I just put the new front bumper on in February 06 with the aero grill mod, and have yet to put the rear on. I'll wait till it gets a little worse. oh, those 4 marks are still there along with a few other marks made by @ssholes who don't know how to park and a pressure mark from an F'in tour bus who opened it's door against the bumper, No one can see it but I can.

I know it's probably not as bad as your dent and scratch. I just wanted to express that we all feel bad that it has happened to you, and that we feel your pain.

Check out paintless dent removal, runs anywhere from $50-$150 depending on location and size of dent. Now if the paint is damaged you'll have to pay for respray.

When it's all done, you won't be able to see it AT ALL! Remember that

I feel your pain and hope it's fixed soon. You will feel a lot better once it's taken care of. I gave my car it's first dent by opening the door and hitting the corner of a metal box in the garage . I had a paintless dent company come out and fix it and the guy made the dent vanish right before my eyes. the only thing is that they of course have to be able to get to the dent with there tools. In parking lots I always park as far away from other cars as I can but of course that is never a garentee that someone won't screw with our cars.

Do check with your insurance, because this type of accident should fall under your comprehensive and not collision, even if you can't identify any transfer paint. With my ins co, if the claim is against your comprehensive, then it doesn't affect your rates , maybe that is the case with yours.

That does suck though, good luck

Amen! Maybe a trunk monkey would be the next best thing.... Of course, we'd have to call it a boot monkey.

Let us know how the repairs are handled!

This really stinks - sorry you're having to contend with this. Couple of thoughts. First - check with your insurance agent - this should be covered under the "comprehensive" portion of your policy. This wasn't a moving accident so there shouldn't be any repercusions to your rates - you unfortunately happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Secondly don't worry about voiding your warranty - this repair doesn't have anything to do with the mechanical aspects of your car.

I feel your pain. I have 3 small dents on my car too. The cost to fix is less than my insurance deductible but a big annoyance.

Update

I found/caught the person who did it!!!!!!

I was like Sherlock Holmes. Long story short I investigated a car at work and it had a scratch on the bumper that would have made my dent. I confronted the owner and she confessed. (I'm leaving out tons of details because it's way too much to write) Point is I've been vindicated. I got her insurance info, and now I don't have to pay jack! Thank you Lord!

The MINI angels were watching over me.

Find your local MINI board and ask for a recommendation for a good Paintless Dent Repair shop (PDR). They can work wonders.

Get it repaired w/ her insurance money (great!).

Report her to the police for hit and run!
