Windshield Replacement Questions

1) I have the rain-sensing wipers. Can I not get a PPG windshield? I'm trying to book an appointment on Safelite and it doesn't give me the option.

2) Let's say I have Safelite do the glass...will that void any future warranty work on glass in the future, for example, if I get a stress fracture in the glass?

My understanding when I replaced my windshield (I have the rain sensing wipers) is that only OEM glass was available.

Bah. That's the impression I'm getting from calling around, too. That really sucks.

I have rain sensing wipers and PPG replacement windshield. It can be done, but you need someone who knows what they are doing and willing to fiddle.

The rain sensor is just stuck to the glass with a special translucent pad. My guy just took the sensor off, and stuck it to the new window. It did not work well at first, so he got a new translucent pad and re-stuck it to the window and now it works perfect.

Note: the official MINI glass has a black square around the sensor to hide it. On my car you can see the sensor stuck to the window. It is a minor detail for me, especially since the PPG glass is holding up much better.

I have one too. Here's my write up on it with the part number you need.

One piece of advice the covers for the pillars make sure that the installer doesn't brake any of the clips or push too hard putting it back or it will crack, and not a cheap replacement...just ask the installer to be careful. 2nd winsheild one set of pillar covers.

I understand that Pilkington makes a windshield for the rain sensing wipers. I'm not sure where one can be sourced.

Hmm, this news makes me happy. I think that I'd like to see a photo first, though. I really love my auto wipers. Anyone have a pic of a PPG windshield with the box installed on it?
