R50/53 Park Distance Control (PDC) always beeps once?
Park Distance Control (PDC) always beeps once?
The PDC in my '06 MCS Cabrio *always* beeps once when I shift into reverse, even when there are no obstructions anywhere behind me. Other than that, the PDC works fine, and senses obstructions like it should.
My wife's car is also an '06 MCS Cabrio, and hers does NOT have the initial beep when she shifts into reverse.
The only difference between our cars is that I asked for the volume on my PDC beeper to be set to maximum, since my high-frequency hearing is pretty lousy.
Does anyone else's PDC beep this way?

Thanks for the replies. I have to take the car in to have the one-touch unlock activated, so I'll ask the guy that programs the features if turning the volume on the PDC all the way up also gives you the initial beep when shifting into reverse.

Your car is probably programmed to beep when the PDC activates. It is a programmable option and normally off by default. Here is the description from the Owner's Manual:
the system starts to operate automatically about one second after you select reverse gear or place the selector lever in position R. Wait for this one second before you drive backwards.
You can have a signal tone set as a confirmation that PDC has been activated.

But that's what it is - a single beep, one second after I put the shifter in "Reverse". When I asked to have the volume set to "max", I guess the programmer figured I'd need all the help I could get and activated the confirmation beep as well.
Thanks

I like that beep...our Audis have it, i've found it pretty useful...
Here's an instance where it could have been really useful for a friend (if he had been paying attention): His Audi has the PDC, and it didn't beep as it usually does when putting it in reverse...Thinking nothing of it, he backed up and hit a low post in a parking garage. It turns out that the fuse for the PDC system blew...It's good to have a confirmation that the system is up and running...
