Do MINI owners vote like Volvo owners or like Porsche owners?
In an interview on NPR, Ken Mehlman, the chair of the Republican National Committee noted that Volvo and Subaru drivers are more likely to vote Democratic, while owners of Lincolns, Porsches, and trucks are more likely to vote Republican. (You can hear the interview at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=6386604)
So what about MINIs? All the MINI drivers I know tend to vote Democratic, but then I live in a big blue city, and almost everyone I know tends to vote Democratic.
Does MINI's appeal cross party lines?

MINI drivers in this community avoid political discussion and just enjoy motoring (and reviewing the site guidelines from time to time)
However, I think that the majority of MINI owners support the National Barking Spider Resurgence Party

I would expect a number of us MINI drivers to vote like the Volvo people. Since we tend to be ahead of the curve on subjects and issues. Also, we use Macs.

MINI owners do talk politics and they do vote, but we are an extremely eclectic and independent bunch, so NPR would have a very tough time pinning us down as an owner group. On NAM we do not discuss politics (per site guidelines) to avoid divisiveness but, as creative and insightful folks are wont to do, we do discuss baseball now and again. Check it out here. And if your tastes are for political incorrectness, you may find that here.

All I know is my friends, who come from both ends and the middle of the political spectrum, all see my new MINI and have the same reaction-"Aw, how cute/cool....I want one!"

This'll get locked as sure as God made little green apples....
I'm a fiscal and social conservative. I doubt I'm the only one because the MINI appeals to a wide variety of people. Just to provide some insight into the conservative mindset, here are some cars that my friends and I own and have recently owned: Camaro B4C, Impala SS, Mustang LX 5.0, BMW 328Ci, BMW 540i, MCS, MCSa, MCS/JCW, BMW 325i, Dodge Ram SRT-10, BMW M-Roadster, 1972 Chevelle SS, Corvette Z51, 1967 Chevy C-10 pickup (restored), Chevy 454SS pickup.
From what I've seen, Volvos appeal to big city people who want the safest appliance that they can commute in. Generally not fun-loving "car-nut" type people.
Subarus also have utilitarian qualities, but since the advent of the WRX and STi, they are pursuing the "driving is fun" crowd somewhat more.
I have a conservative acquaintence who bought a Prius, and a liberal friend who drives a diesel F-250 quad-cab. Sometimes I wonder if political preferences have much bearing on automotive tastes at all.
Too bad this will be locked because it could be an interesting discussion about how different cars appeal to different audiences.

PS Don't blame the lock on me. I didn't say anything disrespectful or impolite at all.

For Red Fish and other new members' information, such political topics violate NAM's Site Guidelines.
